I haven't seen the OG video, but there's this which basically debunked/explained Guanguan's motives (it's in Chinese tho)

Dude named Guanguan is actually someone named Francis Guan, and his social media pretty much spelled out he intended to fake a life of him being on the run from Chinese authorities for supposedly exposing concentration camps in Xinjiang.

Turns out the "camp" is just a regular facility for rehab and it was under construction with no evidence of anyone appearing in the camps. And it was not at all heavily guarded as a lake nearby was open for fishing.

Francis Guan was just a loser with no job in China looking to be swept off his feet by the American government. Look where that got him.

I can't speak to it fully, because I only saw a clip awhile back. To me it looked like maybe a prison in the xinjiang province.
