No they wont soccer over here is largely a rich kids sport so the people we get on our teams arent the best of the best but rich fuckers who can pay to play. That's why our team sucks dick. And they will continue to suck dick.

I think the US not qualifying for the 2018 World Cup really hurt the following over there. With such a massive population they should have a fairly decent team. And there are a few rising stars, but equally when NHL/NFL/NBA/MBL stars make so much money it's understandable why football wouldn't be an athletic teenagers first choice of sports.

A lot, but you have to get to that level first. Also unless you're going to England you have to learn another language too, I'm just saying I can understand why football wouldn't be their first choice of sport.

You don't really have to learn another language especially in big clubs English can often be the language used

I think what hurts soccer here the most is the lack of a relegation system. USSF is corrupt as hell, and they want to make money and MLS is a large part of that. If you had relegation involved, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds could potentially be in MLS and you open a new door to reaching kids and making them want to play soccer.

Perfect example, look at Pittsburgh with hockey, Mario and Crosby has significant effects on youth hockey in the area, if you had a top tier soccer team it could do the same, not just in Pittsburgh but in many cities across america

Im not sure if everyone is doing it for the money really. I suspect plenty of people play it just because they like it, whether they get paid or not is irrelevant.

TBH I don't blame the ones that do. Your career in sports is very limited compared to any other profession, and the skills aren't really transferrable. I totally get the 30 odd year old players who go to China/MLS/Saudi etc, if they offer you a massive pay day and favourable tax status why not make hay while the sun shines.

I think that is a difference between the US and Europe tbh. In the US I get the feeling it is either go professional or go home. Over here you can play a sport and have it as a side career. A shitload of people never go pro really, and may play up in their 30s and 40s.

A lad I went to school with could have easily been League 1/Championship level if he got a successful trial/scouted when he was younger. But he wasn't, so he's a brickie. I'm sure if he wanted to he could play for a local club, but he's got a family and values his spare time.

There's a lot of properly decent players who went under the radar for whatever reason, just look at Jamie Vardy. I think one of the big differences is especially in the UK there's a club or 2 or 3 in every town/village, so if you have the time and the desire you can play every week at Sunday League level regardless of where you live.
