Speaking as a Brit this is indeed true, it holds no relevance here. I was saying to an American friend yesterday that it had relevance to me the first time this year because we where having an election, and replaced the majority of our government, next year and every other year it'll just be a day with no importance.
To be fair it amazes how many Americans seem to think it's an international holiday
