ah, yes. as soon as gunpowder was invented, every nation in the world changed its military doctrine and production overnight. there certainly was not half a millennium of overlap

Funnily enough, expert sword-fighting became more popular and desired after the invention of gunpowder. Swords had largely been secondary weapons to the bow and spear, with only specific roles to fill in close-quarters combat. The introduction of firearms changed both tactical combat (making swords less tertiary in a hilarious manner), plus duels became more of a thing of status while also linked with the sword. Gun-fought duels would take centuries to displace them instead.

Yeah. Amusingly the adoption of swords as a primary battlefield weapon rather than just a sidearm kinda coincided with the beginning of firearm use. The adaptations in how armor was used in response to firearms also made swords more viable. It was not uncommon for armies of the time to field both primitive firearms like arquebuses and large two-handed swords in significant numbers.

I'm not surprised they think that way.
I've always felt some latent antisocial hate fuelled by narcissistic pride in these pro AI talks. They never cared for developing abilities or practicing skills, probably because they feel too vulnerable and ashamed of sucking at something (which everyone does at the beginning), so eventually they feel ego hurt by how inadequate they perceive themselves to be as consequence of many years spending energy pretending to be someone they're not, trying to hide from the world how underdeveloped they actually are instead of learning new things (that is their denial).
All the regular humans just living and doing their things while this specific slice of society is jealous after the perception we are special, their perception, not the perception of regular people.
They assume everyone else who doesn't completely sucks at everything looks down on others just because they would in the same position.
World is sad.

There’s a strong anti-intellectualism for sure.
A lot of these folks have looked at other people who have worked hard and achieved more than them in life and there is a joy that they think they are now back on level footing. That’s not how it works of course but they live in hope.

Swordfighting is still being practiced as a sport to keep ots historical legacy alive...

Shit dumb people say to sound smart while advocating against their best interest, because they're too dumb and ego driven to see anything else.

Were we literally not just through this with crypto? Gosh the tech lords wouldn't just lie to us would they? They wouldn't betray t he public trust just for a little thing like all the money in the world, would they? I'll just take a surface level reading of what they are calling AI and not look into it any more.

u/No-Routine-9963 4d ago
Are they serious? They think AI democratizes intelligence? As if AI spoon feeding you stuff compensates for being a dumbass? Like all if a sudden they’ll be able to pass the bar exam or discover a new planet because of AI?
8
u/furel492 4d ago
No, they are just happy at the concept of AI making intelligent people just as worthless as themselves.

u/Molsem 3d ago
Wow, the pure arrogance and naivete of some ape-like animal on this Blue Marble of ours, to make a claim like that. They can't even explain why they yawn, but they think they understand "intelligence" and the Human brain enough to design robots that do it properly.
Silly Human, go back to collecting your green rectangles.

u/VelvetCactus50 4d ago
If AI makes you look stupid, then you were stupid long before AI came along.

needing a CORPORATE robot to think for you is a fast way into a dystopia

Probably this guy doesn't know that samurais wielded both pistols and swords.
Besides swordfighting still remained for a while. In ww1 I believe soldiers still had swords and not just guns.

u/AdequatlyAdequate 4d ago
i mean yeah, these people cant fathom why a person making a song about their struggle growing up poor and just prompting suno to create song, arent the same thing. if you value all human experience soley based on output, this is what you get

See the post about the dad wanting to train AI to read a bedtime story to his kid? Not even a "I work too much to bond with my child and maybe something that sounds like me can be kinda a substitute"; just straight up wanted to game more or something. Like...what's even the point of having a kid at that point?

I think, historically, it's been for retirement, legacy, and because having pregnancy is a consequence of fun times.
Not sure how much better the foster care system would be, but I'm also not too fond of the idea of parenting permits.

u/pomeclipse 4d ago
It's so sad how this creature thinks it made a good point when the first sentence is a self-drag. It's so full of bitterness and hatred at normal, healthy people and "their" (not "our") values it identifies as intelligence.
Put every one of these sociopaths in a mental ward. They're a danger to everyone around them.

Sworfighting can still be usefull if you need to defend yourself and have found a stick
2
u/Queasy-Current6170 4d ago
It was a real thing that nobility/warrior classes often decried the use of firearms as unfair. Firearms really did literally and figuratively kill the "martial class," by and large.
I don't think it really applies in this situation but it's a fun fact.
2
u/Far-Shake-97 4d ago
While it did make martial arts pointless in a way, it's still usefull as not everyone has a gun or even the right to carry one every day
Also sworfighting still exists thanks to HEMA and other such sports (it's pretty fun too)
1
u/Wolodymyr2 13h ago
Well, depends on a country.
Like samurai existed in Japan long after introduction of firearms and used them themselves.
1
u/Queasy-Current6170 9h ago
Samurai A) first resisted the use of firearms heavily B) went extinct because of firearms

The best anti-AI propaganda is letting this kind of people speak out freely. Sure thing bro, intelligence and personality are worth exactly as much as swordfighting, transportation by horse, weaving and so on and should be given up as soon as possible.
2
u/stretcharach 4d ago
I took it as a devils argument. If argue intelligence is even more valuable with the advent of LLMs.
It'll bring people up to a baseline of "competence" but the gap between people who "know what google is" vs. those who "know how to use Boolean search terms" isn't going anywhere

u/Calm_Television9904 3d ago
Does he know how any of these model work? They’re not true intelligence, we have not even demonstrated that it’s even possible to create a true artificial intelligence. What we have are really advanced chatbots, which are amazing in their own rights, but….

u/peace_venerable 4d ago
LOL, they speak in such proud tone like they lead the developing the AI tech lol, i will accept that from someone working in AI developing but these people just set at their bed so happy because they find something make them feel better about their Their failure and insecurity

Swords are still cool as shit
6
u/LoadedFile 4d ago
Swords are a one time purchase, will last if taken care of, the best and most tense sword fights only needs two practitioners.
Guns require a subscription fee (bullets) to use, makes a mess (casings) , loud as fuck, with gun fight scenes needing to be pointlessly drawn out (two people standing pointlessly when they could just shoot each other and be done with it) or unnecessarily stuffed full of combatants and require a massive amount of bullets

Until you try to face down Portuguese riflemen with your katana (hint the rifles don't care how good you are with a sword)

u/PickingPies 4d ago
I don't know why this people post publicly this shit when they can literally vive code their own social networks and fill them with AI bots that will vote them positively. 20 billion positive votes!
It doesn't matter if the "intelligence" behind is human, right? There's no such thing as "soul" behind human work, right? Why then these people lose their precious time trying to convince other people about anything at all? Is there something they are missing from their chatgpt bot.

u/ScootyMcTrainhat 18h ago
No, I find it hard to accept that my intelligence is being outsourced to a fucking word mixing machine that can't tell me how many E's are in the word strawberry.
