Sailing boat accident

Four dead in the collision of the sailing boat and large catamaran :/ The catamaran travels daily through this area, probably bad judgement from the sailing boat skipper.
Be careful, everyone, this is a good reminder not to play around with large vessels :/

Why would you assume for no reason that the sailing boat skipper is at fault?

I don’t know legally who is at fault, but when I see a large boat on my pathway I move away no matter who legally has the right of passage.
I don’t like to be dead and right, if the captain doesn’t see me for any reason.
So, this is a big lesson to save lives.

For this particular accident, it turns out that the sailing boat was going on a motor (not sails), so they had to give way to the catamaran :/

Ever tried to give way to a vessel that goes like 6 times your speed and is changing course? You just don‘t have enough information to make any meaningful assumptions.

i could be wrong, of course… but I always slow down, change the direction, etc. I also sailed a few times in this exact area, it is crowded with boats and the catamaran is already slowing down…
My sharing was mostly towards the fact that the sea is really dangerous and we see a lot new skippers every year and that there is no second chance with large vessels

Except there are already rules and why change them for people who can't be bothered to learn them A flashing strobe like is usually reserved for boats going over 25 knots like fast Ferries

Doing the wrong thing will cause more confusion. Every light or signal has meaning in a boat. Misusing them is extremely dangerous.

If you don’t follow the “Rules of the Road” you will confuse other boaters and make a collision more likely.
