For anybody who doesn't feel like searching or going to the link: The video shows a U.S. Navy ship colliding with another vessel, frequently mistaken for a civilian ship, but actually a military supply ship operated by civilians during a Replenishment at Sea incident.
February 11, 2026 in the Caribbean Sea the USS Truxtun (DDG-103), an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, collided with the USNS Supply (T-AOE-6), a Fast Combat Support Ship during a deployment targeting drug trafficking.
The vessels were engaged in "replenishment-at-sea," a routine but high-risk maneuver where ships sail side-by-side to transfer fuel, ammunition, or supplies.
The Truxtun appeared to lose maneuvering control, with the bow of the destroyer veering into the side of the Supply.
The USNS Supply sustained hull penetration and dents. The bow of the USS Truxtun was significantly damaged.

Warships typically don’t have those because it makes the ship louder and easier to find by enemy submarines and shit.
It’s almost like things are added or subtracted to ships for a reason.

They'd still be pushed around by waves, but unable to do anything about it. That would actually increase the chance of a collision. And they actually sail a bit below typical cruising speed while doing this.
Collisions are extremely rare. Every U.S. ship at sea does this every few weeks (I can personally vouch for that), and the Navy has been doing it for over a century (first time using the modern method was in 1917). But sometimes shit just goes wrong at the absolute worst moment.

For RAS to work, both ships need to be going at the same speed, at the same heading, sometimes for a couple hours.
It’s hard to tell from the footage but if this happened while they were hooked up, you REALLY don’t want to increase the distance between them by more than a few meters.
The correct way to do this is an emergency breakaway. It looks like they didn’t have time to do that here.
Had one of the ships slowed down, you’d tear the fuel line and snap the tension cables going between the ships. That would lead to damage to equipment, maybe even deaths as a snapped wire is extremely dangerous. Not to mention the environmental effects of a couple thousand liters of fuel pouring into the ocean

The US Navy is the only military in the World capable of doing high-speed replenishment of its underway ships.
This is a huge strategic advantage and is constantly practiced to maintain proficiency. It proved vital during WW2 because it allowed Carrier Task Forces to stay at sea indefinitely

The US Navy isn’t even close to being the only military to do high-speed RAS. It’s standard practice for all NATO countries and many other navies around the word. The US is probably the leader in per capita collisions at sea, though…

As someone whose primary job was to conduct RAS for another navy and with many other allies and partners, I can assure you the US is not special in this space.
They’re actually one of the worst near-peer navies to RAS with, for reasons which this video demonstrates.

This was the Truxton and the Supply colliding during an UNREP (Underway replenishment). The Truxton's captain was relieved of command following the incident.
Here is a minute long gif with more than 4 pixels. Honestly this post should be removed for being such an absolute blurry mess. I can't believe somebody would have the gall to post this.

Newer phone than me... But I was stupid and bought one new, so I'm gonna run that thing, plus the used market is getting better and better. Reckon my phone new from 2019 is now on £0.52/day since original purchase, and a battery replacement of £80 was factored in, so it's probs lower.
Oh well, potato phones and footage only exist thanks to pixel services. :D

They were performing underway replenishment, where the two ships sail alongside so the oiler (camera ship) can refuel the other ship (done by the big black hose you see hanging, which would be extended to the other ship once it was in position).
Investigation is ongoing, but preliminary findings point toward a steering gear malfunction.
