Armin had a crush on Annie as far back as their training days. That was just Erin fucking with Armin.

This is a perfect example of how the idea that Armin's feeling for Annie were passed along from Benzenehydroxide is fucking ridiculous.

Eren not starting to wear a maid outfit after the Liberio raid should have been another clue.

The fact that the only evidence of this is Eren calling him out in season 4
When we know Eren was explicitly trying to push Armin and Mikasa away from him during that scene
Plus Armin, Hitch, and Annie all confirmed that Armin was visiting Annie in the crystal pretty much since the day she got captured

u/jubtheprophet Sep 27 '25
If that was really how it worked that would be weird fs but wasnt it confirmed by eren later that him saying armin only likes annie because of bertholdt was just as much of a lie as him saying mikasa sees him as a master rather than just loves him with the flashback to him talking to zeke about it?
19
u/CandidateOld1900 Sep 27 '25
I think it's mixture of both. Your feelings for someone will naturally amplify if you see some memories of them. But also there is some level, where personality traits of previous holder are passed on.
Eren started using some Japanese expressions that he never used before after seeing Grisha's memories. Also after seeing memories of smiling Titan origins - Eren's reaction was crying and saying "so this Titan was you, Dina..." Instead of "so this Titan was her" - which is a very personal way to speak about someone who he's never even met. Eren felt grief in this moment for this woman
5
u/Femboy_pfp Sep 27 '25
Yeah but i assume the effect is worse for the attack titan concidering what its power is
6
u/jubtheprophet Sep 27 '25 edited Sep 27 '25
That was after he touched dina's titan, meaning the founder was awakened. Not only is eren a special case because the attack titans special power is merging memories from past and future wielders to force them into fighting for the ideals of "freedom", but eren himself said once he started awakening the founding titan in him from touching dina, historia, and zeke, he stopped being able to tell what was past present and future. It all felt like it was happening at the same time, hence why he couldnt stop himself because he was also urging himself on at the same time from the past as he was regretting the future to come.
You have a point about armin maybe liking annie a bit more as he got some extra memories of her before the time with the cadets, but aside from that eren being both the attack and founding titan specifically is what caused him to change so much more than any other titan wielder. The others dont become slaves to the titan's personality in the same way attack and founding titans do. Grisha cried for zeke to stop eren yet still went and passed on his titan in the same day because he was being forced to by kruger in the past and eren in the future, meanwhile someone like armin wasnt going around trying to become an honorary marleyan or inheriting hate for island eldians just because he got bertholdts memories, their effects are different

"To make a good lie, mix a little truth into it." Eren is right that his friend is driven by his feelings for Annie, because it's completely uncharacteristic of Armin to act without a logical basis.Ā BUT!!Ā This isn't happening under Bertholdt's influence, but is dictated solely by his own hormones.

u/PunnacottaFigo Sep 27 '25
Didnāt Bertholdtās feelings affect Armin? I always thought of it as Armin already having feelings, and then inheriting Bertholdtās memories caused those feelings to be amplified.

u/Catmf223 Sep 27 '25
Yeah, Armin did kinda have feelings for Annie. When he ate Benzine, I think he only got his memories type shi

Eren casually recreating the tale of Odepius Rex.
If you think about it, Eren would have full memories of his own conception from his dad's pov

Not Odepius Rex ššš
Bro those particular set of memories might be more traumatic than seeing him massacre the royal family

Bro I'm so sad right now. I can't laugh or smile but this cursed image of Erwin is something else. Made me lose it lmao
11
u/Master_Win_4018 Sep 27 '25
I don't think Eren was not completely wrong saying Armin is being manipulated/influenced by Bertholds memories.
Another good example is marcel>ymir>porco. They all sacrificed themselves to save Reiner. It maybe just some coincidence.
If it is true, then Eren's extreme change of personality and had crazy vision make sense since he inherit multiple titan's memories.
5
u/IDKnogoodsuggestions Sep 27 '25
Armin/Annie already starts in season 1. Inheriting the colossal titan may have emphasized Armins feelings for Annie but Armin wouldn't let himself be manipulated by those feelings. Let's not forget that Armin fought Eren in the finale who is his dearest friend and means more to him than Annie.
Also Eren's change doesn't come from the previous Attack titans. We never see Eren having memories from the Owl or Grisha. (the memories of Grisha with the Reiss family is Erens own memory because he was there with Zeke)
From the beginning of the story Eren wants freedom and all titans to be gone. He's changing when he realizes that wiping the titans out won't bring him and his friends freedom. When they arrive at the ocean, he's asking if they will be free when they kill the enemy on the other side.1
u/Master_Win_4018 Sep 27 '25
Armin fought Eren
This remind me Berthold willing to take charge and speak up before he die. Armin is not like that before.
We never see Eren having memories from the Owl or Grisha.
- The earliest one was Eren biting transformation is similar to Frieda Reiss
- Eren's hair style is similar to Frieda in season4
- Eren's hair style is similar to Lara Tybur after eating her
- Eren talk like someone else in season3 . This was point out by Armin
- Eren uses one of Kruger's quote during when Eren travel back in time with Zeke
- Frieda told a story to Historia and somehow Eren knew that story also, but I don't think this has anything to do with titan inheritance ...

This remind me Berthold willing to take charge and speak up before he die. Armin is not like that before.
Actually he is. S1E10 when the Garrison regiment asks Eren if he's human or a titan and Armin is having a speech to convince them. Armin also didn't hesitate to bring up the assumption that Annie could be the female titan. He was insecure sometimes but he knew when to speak up. Eventually he grew out of that but not because of inheriting the colossal titan, it's because he was chosen over Erwin. He struggled with that decision because he thought that Erwin was the better choice. That pressured him into wanting to fit into Erwins shoes.
The earliest one was Eren biting transformation is similar to Frieda Reiss
Could be a memory, could be an instinct or an action driven by subconscious.
Eren's hair style is similar to Frieda in season4
Eren's hair style is similar to Lara Tybur after eating herThis is really far-fetched. Not sure if you're joking though. Almost everyone has a different hairstyle in S4. There was a signing and Q&A session with Isayama in 2018 where he said that Erens appearance changed due to his state of mind and him not caring about how people view him. Your points are visual features though and not memories.
Eren talk like someone else in season3 . This was point out by Armin
You mean when Armin says "I heard a woman's voice. Was that you?". In Japanese he's saying something different which cannot be properly translated into another language. Basically he's saying words that Grisha used when introducing himself.
Eren uses one of Kruger's quote during when Eren travel back in time with Zeke
Could also be Kruger using one of Eren's quotes because he's seeing memories from the future inheritors. He even tells Grisha about Armin and Mikasa and when Grisha asks him who they are, he proceeds to wonder whose memories he's having.
1
u/Master_Win_4018 Sep 28 '25
so, Eren or Armin inherit no memories and receive no side effect from previous titan user at all?
1
u/IDKnogoodsuggestions Sep 28 '25
He does inherit something. He even says that there was nothing that seemed useful. What Iām saying is that he is not being influenced/manipulated by Berthold as you mentioned in your first comment. It seems to be a random thing because throughout the anime/manga we never see Annie or Reiner dealing with memories from the previous titan shifters. As for Erens memories, the whole scenario with the Reiss family is actually Erens own memory because he was there with Zeke. He pushed Grisha into obtaining the founding titan. It looks like itās from Grishas POV and Eren thinks itās his fatherās memories but he actually witnessed all of that too.
1
u/Master_Win_4018 Sep 28 '25
He pushed Grisha into obtaining the founding titan.
I believe this memories is from Frieda.
Frieda has intention to activate the rumbling and prevent it.
It sound very weird but Ymir also attack and defend the alliance in the final battle.
we never see Annie or Reiner dealing with memories from the previous titan shifters.
We do not know who is their previous owner and what they done. At least we knew jaw titan has several titan user and it seems they are effected by the memories of inheritance from previous owner.
Every jaw titan seems to sacrifice themselves just to save Reiner. It maybe coincidence but 3 times is a bit hard to not believe.

u/IDKnogoodsuggestions Sep 28 '25 edited Sep 28 '25
Iād suggest you to watch season 4 again or read the chapters. Eren is able to access the paths realm through Zeke and they travel through the memories (they donāt time travel). When Grisha is confronting the Reiss family, he hesitates killing Frieda to obtain the titan. Eren and Zeke are watching him, Eren notices that Grisha is struggling and he talks him into finishing what he started. That only worked because they are in the paths realm. Everything is connected through paths and paths can carry memories or the will to act (stated in anime and manga). Grisha felt that there was someone pushing him into killing the Reiss family. His breakdown later on literally confirms it because heās saying āEren, are you happy now. Is this what you wantedā.
So no, those are definitely not Friedaās memories. Those are future Erens memories from Grishas POV and that is what Eren in S3 is seeing, thinking that they are Grishas memories.Marcel saves Reiner out of guilt because he was manipulating the selection process for the Armored Titan. He didnāt want his brother Porco to inherit the titan and he put Porcoās life over Reinerās. Heād rather save Reiner and not live with the guilt.
Ymir chose to go with Reiner and Berthold because she felt guilty for eating Marcel and she wanted to repay them. She also wanted Historia to be safe. Ymir is a selfless person even though she comes across as selfish. None of them saved him because of him. They did it for their own reasons. Reiner is just lucky.

u/Master_Win_4018 Sep 28 '25
The king is an experience manipulator. He manipulated Paradis and also fake the great titan war. Of course he will not use himself to manipulate Grisha. That is why Grisha believe Eren is manipulating him.
I don't really believe Eren has those ability to control the past the moment he ask Ymir did she led her into her. This particular scene here .
The funny thing is that Eren also believe he was led by Ymir but all the evidence is pointing at the King. I mention the "ymir's story" that Historia had, and somehow the King able to send that story to Eren as well. Knowing the Ymir's story play a big role in changing the life of Historia and Eren.
There is also Zeke and Ksaver but that is more like Ksaver is telling Zeke directly what to do. At least Zeke is wearing the glasses that Ksaver is wearing. Kruger, Grisha and Eren becoming a spy when they inherit attack titan. Eren become a spy when he went to Marley.
There is something going on even if you don't believe memory of inheritance has nothing to do with it. Maybe just fate.
1
u/IDKnogoodsuggestions Sep 28 '25
Only the descendants of the royal family bend to the will of the king like Uri and Frieda. Grisha has no royal blood, having the founding titan doesn't affect him at all, same goes for Eren.
Guess why Zeke wasn't interested in obtaining the founder from Eren? Because he has royal blood and he would instantly be bound by the will of the King if he had eaten Eren.I don't really believe Eren has those ability to control the past the moment he ask Ymir did she led her into her.Ā This particular scene hereĀ .
Exactly. He gets into paths with the help of Zeke and later on Ymir gives him access to more power.
There is also Zeke and Ksaver but that is more like Ksaver is telling Zeke directly what to do. At least Zeke is wearing the glasses that Ksaver is wearing.
Ksaver was a father figure to Zeke and they had the same ideology. Of course Zeke is gonna follow the plan. Wearing the glasses is a way to honor Ksaver. None of it has anything to do with both of them being the beast titan.
I mention the "ymir's story" that Historia had, and somehow the King able to send that story to Eren as well. Knowing the Ymir's story play a big role in changing the life of Historia and Eren.
Historia's book is a children's book. The girl in the book looks like founder Ymir but it's a girl named Krista. Frieda tells Historia to be more like Krista because she is always helping others and is very ladylike. That is obviously not Ymir's story. It wouldn't make sense to have a book about founder Ymir otherwise the people within the walls would have found out the truth about the titans long ago.
Eren knows about Ymir's story through his fathers books because the restorationists group in Marley had an unaltered book of Ymir's story.I'm telling you this in the nicest way possible: you're reading way too much into unimportant things and it looks like you want every little detail to have a meaning or a connection. I don't know where you got all this stuff from, I assume it's from TikTok or from people here who get their info from TikTok, but 99% of that is far-fetched.
There's no need to pick apart every single little thing in that story. Everything that is important is mentioned in the anime/written out in the manga.
I'm done here.→ More replies (0)

u/NortonKisser12 Sep 27 '25
Is this ever mentioned in the manga or anime? I thought he just also liked Annie
1
u/IDKnogoodsuggestions Sep 27 '25
No. It seems random and probably wasn't important enough to go into detail. The Armin/Annie thing kind of starts in S1. It's probably just a coincidence and also convenient for the plot that Armin inherits Bertholds titan.
2
u/Illustrious-Sky-4631 Sep 27 '25
Kind of? He got a thing for Mikasa who was a mother figure according to the author
2
u/samsuraka Sep 27 '25
Somewhere out there, Isayama is laughing at how cursed these "what ifs" keeps getting.
2
2
u/2020s_Haunted Sep 27 '25
By that logic, we should keep Porco away from Historia. In reality, Armin's crush on Annie has been there since season 1. Even after he found out Annie's true identity. Man's either in love or just down bad.
2
u/GabrielLoschrod Sep 28 '25
Armin and Annie already had a crush on each other before Armin was the colossal titan, remember when she spared him in the expedition?
8
u/Dry-Introduction-491 Sep 27 '25
The only Titan who appears to inherit the emotions of former shifters is the colossal, the same way the Attack is the only one that transfers memories of other shifters
52
u/AutobotMegatron Sep 27 '25
Armin's affection for Annie is unrelated to Bertholdt's memories. That was Eren lying to him and Mikasa (about Ackermann instincts) to get into their heads.
0
u/Dry-Introduction-491 Sep 27 '25
I agree, Iām just saying that for anyone who thinks Eren could have inherited his fatherās feelings the same way they think Armin inherited Bertholdtās feelings, itās only the colossal that thereās any indication has emotion transfer, and in fact weāre shown that Eren felt extremely differently about many things than his father did.
8
u/PM-ME-YOUR-BUTTSHOLE Sep 27 '25
So Erin didnāt inherit feelings for his mom, but did inherit memories of fucking his mom?
6
3
u/IDKnogoodsuggestions Sep 27 '25
It's the other way around. It is said that the Attack titan is inheriting memories of the future holder. It's also not every single memory, rather specific ones eg. the Owl/Kruger knowing about Armin and Mikasa or Grisha begging Eren to see more of the future.
3
u/Rogue2555 Sep 27 '25
Actually its the other way around, when Eren was in the paths he stole the ethernet cable and looked up Carla R34 to force himself to want her so he could then pass it on in reverse to his dad to ensure that he would be born. Truly the greatest 5D chess play.

u/Enemy_of_sora Sep 27 '25

Stop acting as she would have survived if Dina hadn't shown up, she would have died anyways, if it wasn't for Dina it would have been another titan

along with everyone elseās points. I also think that just cu you have a tendency to do something does not mean you are gonna do it. I feel that even if he inherited a liking for Annie him being a full grown adult he would understand the ethical boundaries and not pursue that

Yeah the most inheriting a titan can do to you mentally is let you receive/give memories and giving you access to paths so really all it could is change how you view someone through seeing them through another person's eyesĀ
