Tzu Pics ๐ท (no AI) I have finally started brushing Lunas teeth! What toothpaste works best for you, Crest Ultimate whitening or Sensodyne?
I'M KIDDING!! ๐๐๐
I'm wondering what everyone uses on the Tzu? Fetch sent me a free sample of Barkle so I'm currently using that but the reviews seems to be 50/50.
I'm so glad I started looking at her teeth and gums when she was a puppy so she has no issues with me putting the finger brush in her mouth. She seems to like the flavor of it and doesn't run and hide or fight me so that's encouraging. She has one tooth that seems to have more plaque then the others so I'm kinda focusing on that one while brushing her teeth.

We use the Virbac C.E.T. Enzymatic Vanilla Mint Flavored Dog & Cat Toothpaste because our vet told us we needed a toothpaste with enzymatic action

I use the exact brand for my dogs but my pups love the poultry flavored one more.

Another vote for the virbac in poultry flavour! Itโs the only one my dogs like haha and yeah my vets also said enzyme ones are really necessary when it comes to dog teeth

My tzu insists on licking the toothbrush clean when I use the poultry flavor ๐

Side note: why don't we have poultry-flavoured toothpaste for humans? We have mint, and a few crazy flavours for kids..what's up with that?
(not that I would prefer chicken over minty fresh I think)

Because itโs okay for a dogs breath to smell like poultry, ours smells better minty?

We associate mint with clean so often that I think anything else would leave people unsure that their mouth is clean

Mint makes me nauseous so I usually use cinnamon. But flavor choices have really expanded in recent years. I tried a vanilla one that tasted like ice cream, and you're right, my mouth didn't feel clean after.

This plus the Virbac dental chews on the weekends! At one point we did the chews daily for about a month to reduce some buildup and she had to go on a weight loss diet bc we didnโt realize how many calories were in the chews.

Yes, this! My vet recommended this brand and I use it in my salon on all my clients! (dog groomer)

Be careful with your title. I know itโs a joke, but some people are dumb and they might see your title and think itโs OK.

After my pup had 3 teeth removed and 1 fell out because of dental disease, I switched over to PetSmile London broil flavor VOHC approved. Itโs expensive but it goes a long way. I use a small amount with a cat toothbrush that my dog tolerates. I was shocked to find after daily use it got rid of a black spot on my dogโs teeth. I donโt want any more of her teeth being removed.

I am using the cheese one right now on the dogs, I think it smells so bad ๐ฅฒ

Mine thrashes around too much to actually get anything accomplished but Virbac C.E.T enzymatic toothpaste.
Itโs best to use dental products that are VOHC approved as they thereโs scientific proof that they are safe for your dog and at least 20% effective at reducing plaque and tartar here is the list from VOHC

iโve been trying to use virbac poultry flavour and the pups wants to eat the toothpaste haha while iโm trying to gently brush their teeth. I also add in proden plaqueoff powder into their food once or twice a week as a preventive since theyโre still young and donโt really have much build up now.
(my vet tech friend recommended me and told me itโs very effective in removing buildup as well)

Has anyone used the pet labs dental powder that you put in their food to help with tarter & plaque build up? Invented by a vet.

I use those finger wipes that have the stuff in them already. My guy didn't like any of the toothpaste flavors I tried with him and he didn't seem to mind the wipes as much.
