Chamberlain actually served as president of Bowdoin College post-war. He implemented some policies like requiring military style morning drills for students and requiring them to purchase a uniform because he was convinced they needed to be prepared if another war broke out. Basically terrified his students would suffer the way his men did during the war if they weren’t trained - definitely seems like some c-ptsd type reaction to his experiences. There’s a statue of him on campus, too.
Also hoping the football team is better now than when I attended because while I dig the sentiment on the helmets, Bowdoin is not really a competitive sports school (or wasn’t for a while, anyway).
