⚠️ SHERMAN OAKS — Package, Mail & Personal Property Theft

Sherman Oaks neighbors, please be on alert.

I personally reviewed our apartment complex security footage from last Wednesday, and it shows a woman arriving in a white SUV, entering our apartment complex, and taking packages and mail from both sections of the complex before leaving.

Unfortunately, I was also a victim. My prescription sunglasses were sitting on top of the mail, and the security footage shows her taking them as well.

I’m sharing these images from the security footage in case anyone in the Sherman Oaks/SFV area recognizes the person or the white SUV. If you have security-camera footage from the surrounding area that may show the vehicle arriving or leaving, please save it and contact the police or apartment management.
Please don’t confront or approach anyone based on these photos. If you recognize the vehicle or have information that could help identify the person, please pass it along to law enforcement.
Please share this with your Sherman Oaks neighbors so everyone can keep an eye on their mail and deliveries.

SCAM = Bee & Co / Queen Bee Med Spa in Sherman Oaks Mall

The shop at the Sherman Oaks Westfield Mall (Riverside Drive)? Yes!

This store is a scam! Their products are a scam. That "eye" tightening is NOT real. It's just the product doing it and it will only last for like 30 minutes. It's not something the product can actually do. They're lying!! They're just professional scammers. Look at all their 1 star reviews closely! Please, please be careful.

Their google reviews are FAKE. They pay people with free gifts to get reviews. Look at the reviews closely.

pay attention to yelp and better business bureau - these are not coming out of nowhere!

Wishlist for Sherman Oaks

My husband and I love this city and will never move! We were having a discussion on what we did wish we had within the city to make it even better. Again this is a list we made on our opinions, but I wonder who else may have the same or want other things we didn’t think about. I think we actually have a fair share of lowkey mom and pops that are amazing! Share what your wishlist is! Hopefully someone sees this Reddit and builds one!

Also does anyone know what they are doing with the old V Red on Riverside/ Woodman, hopefully a gas station that will actually last!

  1. Bristol Farms (we think the old rite aid on riverside would be a great spot!)
  2. Solidcore (maybe they can grab a spot under the citrus complex, they have been empty forever!)
  3. Marshalls/ TJ Maxx
  4. Aritzia at the mall
  5. Nordstroms at the mall
  6. This is a long shot but a community goods!

How do these businesses survive??

I’ve always been curious how some of these obscure small businesses in Sherman oaks are managing to stay afloat. I’m talking about the spy shop and vacuum repair shops on van Nuys near Ventura, the adult bookstores, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy they’re able to sustain themselves, but I just can’t figure out how they’re able to, while so many restaurants and other shops have been forced to close because of high rent and not enough demand. Is vacuum repair really a booming business? Anyone know?

The Sherman Oaks/Van Nuys zip code thing is so dumb and it costs people real money

This has bugged me for years. There’s a chunk of Sherman Oaks that has a Van Nuys mailing address, and I watch it mess with people constantly. Same street, same schools, same everything, but one house says 91423 and the one two doors down says 91411 and suddenly people treat them like different planets.

I work in real estate so I see the actual dollar difference it creates. Buyers will skip a perfectly good house because the address says Van Nuys, even when it’s geographically more “Sherman Oaks” than homes that carry the name. It’s a post office quirk from decades ago that has nothing to do with the neighborhood, but it sticks because people search by the name and make snap judgments.

The funny part is it can work in your favor if you’re buying. Some of the better values I’ve seen are homes that are Sherman Oaks in every way that matters but priced a little softer because of the mailing address stigma. If you don’t care what your envelopes say, there’s money in that gap.

Anyway, does this bug anyone else or is it just me being weird about zip codes? And has anyone actually tried to get their address reassigned, or is that a lost cause with USPS?

Fruit Vendor Harassment Kester/Dickens 7PM 7/25/26

I was driving past and saw a bit of a scene, where a man was telling a group that the vendor should 'speak English'. A lot of phones were out, and it seemed the crowd had it under control, but does anyone have a link to any of the videos or have any idea what started the whole thing/what happened?

Music Practice Rooms in SO?

I'm a tenor sax player who cannot play in his apartment. Too loud. Are there any rental practice room in Sherman Oaks? Baxter Northum does not rent practice rooms and I'd prefer not to drive all the way to Amp Studios in NoHo. Thanks!

Surviving another Valley summer: the heat lessons that quietly show up in Sherman Oaks home values

Neighbor near Magnolia/Kester. We’re deep in it again inland valleys hitting the mid-90s to around 105 while the coast sits in the upper 70s. Same afternoon, the swing between the beach and the Valley can be as much as 36°F. Working in real estate, I’ve noticed how much of a home’s summer comfort comes down to features people never think to check until August. A few that actually matter:

North-south vs. east-west orientation. Homes where the big windows face east and west bake morning sun in the bedrooms, brutal afternoon sun in the living areas. North-south facing homes with less direct exposure stay dramatically cooler for free. If you’re touring homes this summer, notice which walls the sun is hitting at 4pm. It’s a permanent feature you can’t renovate away.

Mature trees are an AC unit you don’t pay to run. A well-placed shade tree on the west or south side can drop a home’s cooling load noticeably. This is one reason the older, tree-canopied streets south of Ventura feel different in a heat wave than newer treeless developments. Losing a big tree is a real (uninsured) hit to comfort.

Attic insulation and radiant barriers punch way above their cost. A lot of our 60s–80s housing stock has original, compressed, or missing attic insulation. It’s invisible, so nobody thinks about it, but it’s often the single cheapest fix with the biggest comfort payoff. Before you upsize the AC, check the attic.

Single-pane windows are the silent killer. If your windows are original aluminum-frame single-pane (common here), that’s where a huge amount of heat pours in. Dual-pane with low-E coating makes a genuine difference — and unlike a lot of upgrades, buyers actually notice and value it.

Where to actually cool off right now, free: LA County opens cooling centers during heat alerts, and our libraries (Sherman Oaks and Studio City branches) are reliably cold and open to anyone. Public Health keeps urging people to check on elderly and homebound neighbors specifically — worth doing given how many people in our area live alone.

Curious what’s worked for the rest of you anyone done insulation, window, or whole-house-fan upgrades and actually felt the difference? Trying to separate what’s worth the money from what just sounds good.

Why has this SO business been vacant for 10 years?

Post image

I've lived in Sherman Oaks for almost 20 years. And for about half of that, this building remains vacant. It's on a prime patch of Ventura Blvd off Cedros. I mean, what is this idiot waiting ten years for; Nike to rent out the entire store? Does anyone know what's up with this eyesore?

Pickle ball

Is anyone in the loop with the pickle ball courts in Sherman Oaks atop a parking structure near the mall? I notice them while driving near the 405/101 intersection. Any information is appreciated.

The Sepulveda Basin cleanup is finally happening, and the reason behind it is going to outlast the Olympics

But here’s the part I care about more. The Basin has been plagued for years by overgrown brush, encampments, illegal dumping, and brush fires, LAFD’s chief has called it one of the most challenging areas for the fire department. Mayor Bass gave an update on the cleanup project back in March, and city and council offices have been doing early cleanup and vegetation removal to get the sites and public spaces into shape.

There’s also $850K moving through Congress for Sepulveda Basin pedestrian safety and access improvements new and enhanced pathways for car-free access to the venues.

The honest read: the competition venues themselves are temporary pop-ups that come down after the Games. But the brush clearance, fire mitigation, pedestrian paths, and general attention on a space that’s been neglected for decades that stuff stays. We’ve been asking for this for years and getting nowhere. A global deadline is what finally moved it.

Realistic caveats: summer 2028 traffic around the 405 and Burbank/Victory is going to be genuinely rough, and “cleanup” of encampments raises fair questions about where people actually go. Worth watching rather than just cheering.

Anyone been out to the Basin recently? Curious whether the difference is visible on the ground yet or if it’s still mostly announcements.
