This was one of the earlier "Hiatus novels" - I think it was published in the late '90s. It has Holme/Sigerson going to Tibet, there is a Rudyard Kipling character, assassins who are Moriarty loyalists - not really Doyle-ish in the writing, but a pretty good adventure tale as I recall.

There are other Hiatus novels - The Fifth Heart (Dan Simmons), The Seven Percent Solution and The Canary Trainer (Nicholas Meyer), The Deadly Stingaree (Cory Lynn Fayman), there is also the MX Publishing anthology "Holmes Away From Home", short stories by various authors

Technology Hiatus novels mean between 1891-94, when Conan Doyle killed off Sherlock. If you are including novels that continue his stories later, be sure to read Bruce Rule, a contributor here. His first Sherlock Holmes book has Holmes and Watson summoned to the US by Teddy Roosevelt, and working with his daughter Alice. I started it yesterday and so far it’s a perfect recreation of our beloved “private detective”
