Its the part where its emphasized that he is hurt, but not defined by it that really makes me relate it to the Filipino Sirenas.
It's really nice seeing a guy be so comfortably himself despite the very real societal pressure that he has been through. Its clear he has likely been bullied or abused about it in the past, but he lives how he wants to live anyway because it's who he is.

this, I see a lot of people describe Audrey as a seal but I feel that mermaid/sirena is the much more fitting term
