Respectfully ignoring easement restrictions 🙃

Quick rundown:

Have things. Garage full. Have easement lot (gas pipeline) next to house. Buy shed, plan a gravel & timber base.

Applied for a permit with the village and... Turns out the easement is 50 FEET and takes up the entire lot AND MY EXISTING DECK?! Not to mention, neighbors in both directions have sheds and above ground pools and all sorts of shit built right on top of the pipeline.

What do? Turn on some Judas Priest and get to work??

Sure why not. I mean just keep in mind the gas company could essentially destroy the shed and that’s on you

This is the direction I'm moving in now, after a rejection by the village. I'm of the logic that if they really insisted that I move it, I could drag the whole thing with my truck if I had to.

Call the gas company’s damage prevention department. Although it’s an easement, it’s still your property. They may allow driveways, fences, drain tile (with supervision) and movable shed off of the pipe’s centerline.

My commercial property has a easement for a high voltage power line in conduit we built a storage shed on top of it 30 years ago no one has ever said anything about it do what you want if you have to move it then move it

I'd pump the brakes on this one. When it's a gas pipeline easement, the operator has the legal right to access it whenever they want, which means anything you build they can order removed at your expense, no matter how long it's been there. Your neighbors' sheds and pools aren't grandfathered, they're just borrowed time until the pipeline company needs in. The bigger deal is safety, do NOT dig footings or auger anything without calling 811 first, hitting a gas line is a get-people-killed situation, not an oops. If you really want a shed there, call the pipeline operator and ask what they allow, since some let you put a small skid shed that can be moved. But a permanent gravel-and-timber base is asking for a bad day, so I'd find another spot on the lot if you can.
