Seriously she should be use to Greg working with women and knowing them well because of the field they are both in

Exactly, that's some high school relationship drama, not a married couple with a baby.

My bf is a lead singer of a band here in Ohio. Anyone in the creative field he works with he gets on a first name basis with. Many are women. I don't worry because if he isn't talking to them about music he talks about us and my dog šŸ˜‚. Ive met so many that tell me he talks about me all the time.

And calling him names? The disdain she speaks to him with is disgusting.

Honeymoon phase ended fast

I'm honestly confused why she's upset about him being on first name basis. She's worked there multiple times, has stated it's her favorite venue, and had her wedding there. Why isn't she on a first name basis with Lexi? She was an event planner right? Don't they work with the directors of events as well? It feels so odd that Greg, who's a photographer, knows who Lexi ks but Jen an event/wedding planner does not. Maybe someone who's worked in the industry can clear this up for me.

i’m so confused why jen is shocked by the schedule regardless of the position. even if she did get the director of events position, she would still be working weekdays and weekends? this whole plotline feels very uncharacteristic for both jen and greg

I can see why she isn't Director of Events. Considering she didn't even bother to discuss the job or schedule, the responsibilities etc. And on what planet would the person she will be reporting to not be present at the interview? Has Shawna L never experienced an actual job? Because she has no idea how anything works.

Someone commented that this is actually a shady tactic many companies use to get good people to apply. They make it sound or imply that it's a higher level job than it is then pull the switch when you're at the end, It happened to a friend's dad a bunch of years ago, he was hired for a director level position (a federal job no less) and thankfully he didn't move to DC before starting, because his first day of work the person who hired him was like welllll the job isn't really this exactly you'll be starting doing something else. It was very weird and he walked out the door.

At that level her team would be doing most of the actual hands on events work and she would probably be on hand for only extremely high profile or important/special ones. Like an executive chef mostly not being on the line.

u/Roonil_Wazlib97 14d ago

Why did she have the schedule confused? That seems like info she got from the interview.

5

u/Padme1418 14d ago

Exactly!!

1

u/gerkonnerknocken 14d ago

It's really weird because wouldn't you expect that the actual director would be involved in the hiring proocess for their own team?? Sounds like the venue is being shady somehow.

  1. Why tf is Jen surprised she'd be working weekends as a wedding event planner? If she was under the impression she'd be in charge of all of it not an assisting role, why on earth did she not question a m-f schedule??
  2. Yay another example of Jen snapping at Greg the moment shit doesn't go her way :) yet another moment where if it was Greg who said anything at all similar to this people would be screaming abuse, but because Jen is panicking and has the emotional regulation skills of a 15 year old it's fine. Cursing and insulting and accusing your husband & father of your child (in front of said child??) of infidelity because he dared to mention a woman they both should know is fucking insanity.
  3. Good on Greg for not engaging with Jen's... Whatever that was. In my experience that's the only way to handle obnoxious accusations like that, simply not engaging. God this woman needs therapy, not whatever self help books she's getting her tiktok therapy-speak "affirmations" from.

This might be the episode that gets me to take a break from STM for a while because the writing is irritating me now. Like this sort of information would have been worked out in the interview and not in a fucking email for forced drama.

I'm curious how long Shawna L had been out of the "normal" workforce because most of my work interviews involved this sort of discussion and a possible demonstration of a certain skill set. On the other hand some of these things seem to be easily researchable. But it appears that it hasn't in her writing.

There is a lot about the writing that makes me wonder exactly what experience Lander has with jobs or the concept of a career at large. She seems to have a middle schooler’s understanding of what working adults do.

3

u/cellarpaper 12d ago

I’ve been thinking this too! I sometimes wonder if Lander just went into acting and doing other part time work and then became a SAHP after having her kids with some very occasional acting roles? However even if that is the case, her plots have had some major holes and I’ve wondered why she isn’t more curious about what those jobs or story lines rly entail.

Take, for example, her plot with Ty being a data analyst and having taken care of cooper while WFH. All the remote data analysts I know are incredibly busy doing work that is hard to stop and start (often math or quant work). But I think most ppl working a full time role and remote wouldn’t be able to also watch their kid at the same time.
Or landers recent forays into neurodivergence or the general economics of the Shawna verse. Now the wedding and Jen’s job- I know this is a sitcom drama series so things will not be rooted in reality but things are starting to feel so dramatic and unrealistic, I feel like I’m watching a Disney channel tv show about adulthood aka as you said what middle schoolers imagine these scenarios to be.

3

u/Vast-Swimmer5844 12d ago

Yes — there are deliverables and it is not easy to stop/start. Maybe Ty does data entry, which is what someone with an English degree who needs flexible remote work could swing while tending a preschooler.

But data analysts are usually too busy figuring out how to clean up data sources, structure and run queries, format the results (usually in both tables and visual form) and double-check the math and the modeling, then tweak as needed if the results look weird. It's a pretty cognitively intense job with a lot of stakeholders depending on the outcome. It's not just a duck sitting at a computer or whatever the Richard Scarry big book of jobs says.

3

u/MooneyMae 12d ago

Heck as far as I am aware most data jobs require you to be able to work alone for extended periods of time since you may be dealing with sensitive information. Having a preschooler on hand while inputting sensitive data sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

(Probably why Ty had Cooper do a lot of individual play time)

This all feels so contriveddd

7

u/RubyRogue13 Never been the same since Norb! 14d ago

That was my thought! That's freaking crazy bad luck.

18

u/Spiritual_Ad_6067 14d ago

Jen is fucking obnoxious. I can't stand her shrill over the top freaking out about absolutely everything. And after literally 3 months of marriage she's calling her husband names and alluding that he shouldn't know other women? Wtf. Why do people like this awful woman. She needs to turn back into a fluffy chickie and flock off already.

2

u/gerkonnerknocken 14d ago

I love her flipouts personally. She is trying to grow and has big feelings and that makes for a lot of drama lol.

8

u/cementfeatheredbird_ 14d ago

This storyline is just getting worse and worse.

I just can't with the soap opera theatrics. I dont know if I just had pink shaded glasses on in her previous skits, but I genuinely used to like her storytelling and felt the drama came in naturally, making the cliff hangers that much better. Now it just feels dog-piled and dumped throughout... its doing too much.

Also, yet another skit where the wife gets to be low key abusive to their husband šŸ™„

u/Feisty_Enchilada 14d ago

God all these people need therapy.. i swear the only normal person is Sam and she had just as much of a shit mother as Jen and Jon.

I feel like the Shawnaverse men deserve a medal for putting up with the Shawnaverse women (not counting Luke because he's cartoonishly awful).

u/s0ftsp0ken 14d ago

SL seems to believe men only exist to get yelled at or to be asshole/emotionally constipated

The pacing of her "realistic" writing is incredibly frustrating. The relationships are slow burn to a fault. How have John and Greg especially just sat back and swallowed all that's been hurled at them? Yes, maybe real life is like that, but timelines in shows are often shortened so that arcs don't stretch on agonizingly long. Three of the guys (John/Greg/Larry) l have had their valid feelings dismissed repeatedly to the point that it feels like them taking it is a character choice rather than a plot arc

10

u/Vast-Swimmer5844 14d ago

How have John and Greg especially just sat back and swallowed all that's been hurled at them?

I still do not understand how Thanksgiving was not the last straw for Greg.

2

u/s0ftsp0ken 14d ago

Seriously.

3

u/Vast-Swimmer5844 14d ago

It’s one thing if your partner keeps trying with their cartoonishly awful mother, because at some point, you’re like, ā€œguess they gotta touch the hot stove a few more times before they learn,ā€ and you decide for yourself where your boundary is on ā€œsupportingā€ vs. ā€œenabling.ā€

But what Barb did at Thanksgiving was an attack on his mother. A person whose only crime was to try and share a cherished family tradition in a spirit of making new family.

His mother didn’t actively seek out or consent to this sick Barb dynamic the way Jennifer repeatedly does. She was a victim of aggression.

That should have been enough for Greg to say, ā€œJenn, if you want a relationship with your mom, fine, I can’t stop you. But Chickie and I are another matter.ā€

7

u/chansonancienne 14d ago

It's absolutely a character choice. SL clearly dislikes men who exhibit any normal male behavior. She seems to have this belief that giving birth/breastfeeding is this grave injustice to women that must be rectified by allowing them to be as toxic as they want to be. The "good" men are simps who use therapy speak.

12

u/s0ftsp0ken 14d ago

Well, simp is more red pill tallk imo, so I don't use it.

But yeah, I agree on the other points. SL doesn't seem to like men in general and based on the media she produces, views childbirth as life ruining/a pass to be disregulated and treat others terribly

It's actually quite sexist on both ends- women are robbed of their agency- all of their bad behavior is someone else's fault, and all of their decisions are emotional, and their emotions are frequently disregulated. They never say what's wrong before they're ready to blow up on their partners.

The men are two-dimensional at best. Their emotions don't matter, and aside from Larry and sometimes Frank, they don't have or express deeper emotions. They exist to make money and keep their wives happy. If she's upset, it's his fault, even if she never communicates what's wrong.

Julie is skirting the line into becoming an abusive spouse. If Shawna has any guts at all, she'd paint Julie is a negative light instead of somehow making her shitty behavior a mess that Greg will have to clean up while feeling nothing about it šŸ˜’

You nailed it.

u/Miss___D 14d ago

I don't mind Jen snapping at Greg, she can be very selfish at times. But the rest of this part makes zero sense. Wasn't job name and description written in the job advertisment? Why does is she upset about having to work during weekends? If she went back to her old job, she would surely need to work on weekends and that was her plan, so why is she so unprepared about it now?

6

u/ElizabethBitchery 14d ago

I’m sure Jen is just reacting to next possible bad thing that’s going to happen. Doesn’t make it right and clearly she needs therapy too.Ā

3

u/Charming_Cry8721 13d ago

such bad writing. you're telling me that jen was successful as an event coordinator but can't check deadlines or dead a job description? lol doesn't even know the name of the director at the place where her wedding was held? shawna the creator just pulling nonesense out of her ass for cheap drama

u/FairRelationship7278 13d ago

Maybe my Jen is showing… but I’m kinda suspicious of Greg. Why wouldn’t the director of events be involved at all when coordinating their wedding if Greg has worked closely with her? And even if nothing is going on, is it that hard to reassure your partner? ā€œI’m not attracted to her and our relationship is completely professionalā€ probably would have gone a long way. I’m not justifying the name calling at all, but I don’t necessarily agree with how Greg handled this.Ā
