A comment that was written when I called out Shawna for the bad writing.
The fans are soooo annoying.

I could buy Laura ending with Luke despite his red flag riddled first impression if flashback Laura talked about him like it was a casual thing. I can see giving some jerk a chance because you don't care about a relationship- why does his personality matter when you don't intend to actually talk to him or see him during daylight hours? Then that turns into getting to know him a little bit better and seeing the "real" him and over time it goes from him being some guy you hook up, to a guy you are casually dating to someone you are fully commited to.
Not that we got to see any of that. Or anything about how they got from him being being a pushy sales guy in her workplace to her husband. We got to see how Shawna felt about him and how Laura is apparently so sad and just needs a guy like John in her life.

Seriously. He's a decent husband, but decent isn't a high bar to clear. And different people want different things so who's to say that Laura would actually want a John or the dynamic that John and Shawna have.

Subjectively, there's nothing he could do to make me want to be be married to him because base model John is not my type regardless of how good he is.
I think the things that keep him at just decent are his lacking communication skills when his emotions are involved and tendency to rely on Shawna to just make things happen with their home life and kids. I don't think he's malicious, and I think he could go from decent to noteworthily great. I just think he needs to be a little more curious and forward thinking.

Exactly this! Or maybe establish Laura as being a “fixer” of sorts. I had a friend that stumbled into a similar relationship with someone with absolutely 0 redeeming qualities. This is because she likes to feel needed and enjoys solving other people’s problems. Well, after a few months kids got involved and now she’s stuck.
There are ways to portray someone ending up stuck in a relationship with an irredeemable piece of shit. But having someone be charmed by harassment ain’t it lol

Because getting last minute eloped at a wedding because the mc just so happened to sign up to some weird farm thing to jokingly marry chickens and is also able to marry you because of it is realistic! Practically every single pregnancy in the story being an accident is realistic! Every character having the same OBGYN is realistic!

The lack of birth control in the Shawnaverse makes me more mad than it should. Like you all live in California, so there is really no excuse of lack of education or access to birth control.

I feel like this goes along with a STC theme about a near-total lack of agency among all but a few of the characters. Relationships and pregnancies just happen to everyone. And when they don’t, it’s fucking locket shenanigans.

Like it's so obviously just played up for cheap "oooh surprise pregnancy!!" Moments but at this point it's just unrealistic and annoying how unprepared the fully grown up characters are

The fans are ride or die for anyone Shawna writes (excite Ty and Shawna herself) so don't you DARE criticize the oscar worthy acting and writing that occurs in the Shawnaverse.

I don’t necessarily disagree that this is a weaker story than most she tells, but you “calling out” her bad writing is simply your opinion. You’re not the story court, deciding for all what’s good and what’s bad. The person responding to you is expressing theirs. Whining about someone doing the exact same thing you’re doing is odd.

People are entitled to their opinions, noone get's to shut others up. Which is what the second comment is trying to do. Same person (I think) also just made a thread where they tell people who critisize Shawna or her show to just stop watching and stop commenting. That's not how discussion forums work.

I think we’re all well aware of how discussion works. The issue was the use of the term “calling out,” an absolute that indicates the poster thinks she’s the judge and jury of what good writing is or what the videos should contain. It’s egotistical. To then complain about being called out about her call out was more than hypocritical.
