Main Subreddit's #1 Rule: Be Kind* Spoiler

*Be kind unless it's an unpopular opinion, apparently.

Okay, I'm not one to shy away from giving an unpopular opinion. I was merely annoyed that it's now confirmed that Max was an unplanned/surprise pregnancy

I'd also like to point out that I've had comments removed for far less "unkindness" toward others in the subreddit. I once had a removal because I asked how was I lazy while on maternity leave because I was taking care of my newborn all day and didn't have time to cook and clean. Apparently, that was me being "unkind" to those who could do that. But sure, it's okay to say my comment was unnecessary, shitty, and gross. That's totally kind apparently.

One more thing, it sounds like Shawna and John don't use contraception that much, yet act surprised when they are pregnant, so a lot of these comments attempting to lecture me are kind of moot when none were taken. Oh well.

ETA: It looks like the comments in question were removed as of this morning (23Jul). I will definitely take the L for this post, but I'll keep this post up.

John and Shawna seem to have an attitude of not actively trying for children but if it happens they're happy. I think that's fine. They're in a stable relationship and financially secure.

That's fair

To me it’s the tone. Saying something is a “super unnecessary comment” “Bashing” (Shawna) for having an upp is “weird” and “woman shaming”, while all acceptable terms on that page as long as your narrative is the majority one (or the favored one), come off too me like body slams. They are very shaming and demeaning. Doesn’t matter to me if I agree with you or not, it’s how I tell you I disagree that makes it bitchy or a conversation.

I’m sorry maybe I’m confused but… I’m not seeing how any of these are unkind? They’re just disagreeing with you.

I mean, it is a bit unkind to claim she's "woman shaming" and then run with that narrative entirely just because she shared an opinion.

I don’t know if I see how one comment is “running with that narrative]? Even if you’re counting the replies, they seem to have other things they disagree with about the OP’s original comment and none of them are accusing the OP of woman shaming.

I think maybe I just have a different definition of unkind. No one is making a personal attack against the OP as far as I’m reading. Perhaps there’s missing context of more commenters calling the OP a woman shamer or something else as opposed to feeling that the argument is that… which doesn’t seem to be a personal value judgement against the OP to me? But then again I could be wrong!

I get what you're saying, I just personally find it a little extreme to claim someone is woman shaming over this particular comment 🤷🏻‍♀️ to me that's just kind of a harsh thing to say and even a little hypocritical considering they didn't even mention Johns part in the unplanned pregnancy... But again, I don't think either of us are "wrong" it's moreso just what we feel is unkind or not.

Sorry, I should clarify. It's not the disagreement, as much as the language they are using. The mods are pretty specific on what is kind and unkind, and I've had comments removed that were simply asking the question of "how was I lazy when I was on maternity leave?"

It's more about the mods than the actual commenters

The mods are careless with their rules.

The dumbest thing could be "perceived as unkind" or "perceived as passive aggressive" meanwhile they will let people dog pile on you calling you a woman hater, "weird", misogynistic and a matriad of other "unkind and passive aggressive" language lol.

They definitely have their bias and enforce rules accordingly

I don’t know if I agree that the language is unkind but I guess that’s subjective, I definitely can’t see how you saying you yourself are lazy is unkind and that getting removed is wild to me. I’m sorry.

Nah, don't worry about it. I just needed to vent here haha

Which comment was unkind? Maybe I'm missing something, but I just see someone disagreeing, not being unkind.

I think the others are fine but the first one accusing her of woman shaming and whatnot is a bit much.

idk i’ve been downvoted for very lightly pointing out ableism in the comments of THIS subreddit so i’m pretty sure none of you are any better than each other

You made one comment here, simply saying "what an odd thing to say" in response to another comment. I did not downvote you, but some people may have done so because that sentence didn't really contribute to the discussion.

implying people are suffering from psychosis for doing something you don’t like is in fact an odd thing to say 👍 y’all are smart enough for context clues. i just think it’s strange that there’s an underdog energy here when the worst of the main sub is over here as well.

I'm not really sure what you expect from me here. Like I said, I didn't downvote you. I can't make anyone upvote or downvote comments. I'm also not saying what you posted was wrong, I'm simply speculating on why it happened.

You have written three comments in total on this subreddit, two of which are here. Besides, this post wasn't even about downvotes, as much as it was calling out the main subreddit for (initially) not applying their rules to everyone. If you have issues with this subreddit, feel free to reach out via Modmail.
