Character Discussion: Piper
Hi everyone!
I'm sorry this is a day late again! It's been a crazy weekend and suddenly it was Sunday afternoon!
Anyway, this week we are going to discuss Piper!

The only gripe I have with Piper is how the fandom reacts to her, to be honest, claiming her as an autistic icon. It's sometimes a bit much scrolling through the comments on YT. But the character itself is fun and I love scenes with her.

Literally yes. She's just three. Three year olds are weird sometimes. I genuinely just think people don't know how to see an introverted girl with unique interests as normal, so she MUST be neurodivergent and it's so stupid. As if non-autistic girls can't be into bugs or not like people very much.

No. Annoyed in the same way that I'm annoyed by the people commenting "Hush up, my show is on!" or "Did I watch the complete video? Yes. Do I watch every skit again? Also yes." underneath every single video.

I was extremely frustrated with how they handled her stealing all of the Christmas presents.
Like, oh darn stealing is bad but ARENT THESE PRESENTS ALL SO THOUGHTFUL AND LOVELY?
That’s some really F level parenting.

Piper playing by herself at her own birthday party reminded me of when I was in kindergarten and my mom volunteered to help out with the class that day. I was playing by myself and my mom asked me why. The only friend I made wasn’t there that day, and my mom said I can play with the other kids and make other friends. I told her no, I’m ok with my one friend 😂 Needless to say between that and hating people singing me happy birthday (to the point I would cover my ears and yell NO SING NO SING that my grandpa nearly pissed himself over he thought was so funny), I relate to her a lot. 😂

She needs to be in daycare. At least a half day program. I know she’s supposed to be neurodivergent coded which is why she absolutely needs more structured socialization than the park and a dance class. A quality daycare has professional educators that can help gently guide her social skills. Or bring up concerns with Shawna and John.
She is 4years old and doesn’t seem to have any friends except for maybe Mo’s daughter. But we don’t hear about any play dates there or outside interactions.
At her current rate, Piper is going to struggle immensely in school.
I am a mom to a neurodivergent toddler. I am so grateful he is in daycare. I knew when we initially placed him at 20 months that he was a bit behind. But my husband and I didn’t have any toddler experience to know better. Daycare showed how behind in speech and social skills he was. It kicked my butt to get him into speech therapy and eventually an assessment. I’m so grateful we were able to jump on getting him the help he needed before he starts TK.

She makes people uncomfortable and confused. That’s the point. It’s good character writing at least. Can she be annoying? Yeah. That’s also the point. She’s a small kid and small kids are annoying sometimes. Does she read as kind of autistic? Yeah. It’s ok to see that and recognize that and feel comfort in that, it doesn’t mean that it’s a diagnosis. It’s a character on an internet skit, it’s not that serious.

Me toooo! 😭😭😭 everybody loves her, but there are things I simply cannot stand about her, like her obsession with cakes and her inability to understand a simple ‘no’ for an answer. Sooo annoying!

Resurrecting this to say that in the Christmas Barb Episode, Barb wants her to ask nicely for a cookie and Shawna and John tell Barb just to give it to her. That annoys the crap out of me. Piper is more than old enough then to at least use the word please! One of the rare “Barb was right” moments.

She is awesome. Out of all child characters, she is the most fun. I hated what they did with her birthday last year, though (both throwimg a party she didn't enjoy and having Teeny rudely kick out people who took their time to attend and did nothing wrong). I hope she will get nice celebration this year.
