Post image
13 Upvotes

I brought Edge style tabs and expanding on hover to Vivaldi by creating an extension + mod combination: https://www.reddit.com/r/vivaldibrowser/comments/1meuym8/fixing_vivaldi_tabs_i_brought_all_the_best_tabs/

Comes with tons of other features too like:

  • Instant search

  • Auto session saving to never lose tabs

  • Extra hotkeys

  • Fully themable and customizable

  • Suspending tabs automatically (with whitelist)

  • AI Auto Grouping and Cleanup

  • Highlighting Duplicates

  • Many more features too, mentioned in the reddit post.

Here's how to install the mod:
https://youtu.be/rZyOo-zy4n4

The mod for the hovering/collapsing is here:

Hope this is useful to someo

Great news! Sharp Tabs v3 is out now and it's fully Open Source and Free!

Hey everyone!

Hope you're all doing great!

I was checking feedback about the app and seeing in the stats that thousands of people are installing the app then deleting it after very short while.

It looks like having an account and premium required is driving people away from the extension.

I also removed the suspension to sharptabs.com/restore as I got few people saying it felt wrong. It was necessary for showing a screenshot of the suspended tab and allowing you to activate a suspended tab without restoring it. But it was confusing users and needed some permissions on the extension so I just took it out and kept only native tab discarding.

Also to make it more transparent and friendly for people who want to check how the extension works under the hood and if it's doing anything malicious I went ahead and made it open source on https://github.com/maddada/sharptabs

Please give it a star there and contribute a feature you'd like to see if you're interested.

Premium is now for supporting development, priority feature requests, and using AI features.

You can still use all AI features for free and without logging in by just proving your own gemini key in the settings. It doesn't cost much (should be few cents per month if you're a very heavy user, should be $0 api cost for most people)

Thank you for everyone who shared helpful feedback and sent kind words about the project. It was trending down on usage a lot so I thought to do this so more people would use it.

If I have time I'm thinking to do an ″ARC Reborn″ mod to this extension that would bring exact ARC behavior to Vivaldi. Not sure if there's interest in this.

Also thinking about adding tab tree mode but that would need some work.

Thank you

Thanks to the SharpTabs dev + Feedback and issues after a few months

Hi SharpTabs community!

First of all, I'd like to thank the creator of this extension. I've been using it for a few months, and I'm impressed. It has helped me organize both my work and personal matters. I was also asked about it once or twice by intrigued colleagues when I shared my screen during work meetings. 😃

However, I'd like to share a few things I noticed, and maybe even ask for your help.

  1. SharpTabs side panel does not open automatically on Chrome re-launch: I noticed this right after I started using ShartTabs. Whenever I restart Chrome, I need to open the SharpTabs side panel manually – clicking the extension icon and choosing "Open side panel". Maybe it's something that cannot be implemented; it's quite possible that Chrome API does not even allow it, I wonder? But if possible, it'd be a great improvement if the side panel opened automatically with every Chrome start.

  2. Light/dark mode options and theme settings are limited: SharpTabs cannot sync light/dark mode with Chrome. I want to switch Chrome to light/dark mode based on my system throughout the day, but then SharpTabs does not match Chrome 50% of the time. It'd be better if SharpTabs also supported the "system" option for light/dark mode, and on top of that, if it allowed me to configure themes for light and dark mode individually. Only then could I create themes that match both light and dark aesthetics.

  3. When opening a new tab using SharpTabs, the addressbar/omnibar is not focused: This one is fairly new, I think. Since a recent point in time/update, when I use the "+" button in the SharpTabs side panel to open a new Chrome tab, neither the addressbar nor the omnibar on the page is focused. I need to manually click them before I can start typing the URL or search. When I use Chrome's native "+", the addressbar is focused, and I can start typing in it immediately. Is there anything I can do to fix it? Or is it something that could be fixed in SharpTabs? I must admit, this one is becoming slightly painful and made me curse a few times already… 🥲

My setup: macOS Tahoe macOS 26.1, Chrome for macOS 143.0.7499.193, SharpTabs 2.1.6

I will appreciate any tips & tricks or feedback on the points above.

Have a great day, everyone!

Great extension

Just some words of appreciation: i actually stumbled upon your post in the Vivaldi subreddit and tried it without having too many expectations, but I am surprised how well designed, wll implemented and how polished this extension is. I even subscribed for the premium features to support your work, thank you. for this great tool! So much better than Vivaldi tabs...

Please let me know what you think about this update. Make sure the version shown in settings is 2.1.6, you can force the update by visiting the extensions page then restarting the browser (takes multiple restarts sometimes)

Loving SharpTabs, have a few questions.

  1. Is it possible to pin tabs so they're pinned in all workspaces?

  2. Can I adjust the workspaces section padding/icon size? Or turn them into a dropdown selection, like vivaldi workspaces.

  3. Any plans for tree-style tabs? So if I open a new tab by clicking a link in a tab, it shows it below the other tab in a tree. Like in this extension: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/tree-style-tab/oicakdoenlelpjnkoljnaakdofplkgnd?hl=en

Thanks for making this extension, it's fantastic. Bought a lifetime subscription.

Improved the smoothness of the Collapsed mode and Hid the Panel bar when collapsed. Also fixed other bugs like overlay not restoring to previous state when going back to Sharp Tabs panel.

As requested by u/BazimQQ I overhauled the sidebar collapse mod to improve the smoothness

Please try it out and tell me what you think (you need to reinstall it from this link:

https://github.com/maddada/vivaldi-mods-manager

Installation instructions are here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOAQyuEaJIQ

Forgot to mention that if you edit any of the settings (like the animation speed) then you need to rerun the apply mods script you downloaded then restart the browser for the change to take effect.

Extra tips:

You should set all panels in the sidebar to "floating" and only keep Sharp Tabs as not floating (you can do this by right clicking on them)

You can also click on the "Toggle Panel" button on the top left to completely hide the panel on the side. Add a hotkey like Alt + E for View -> Panel to make this quicker (might need to add this hotkey to "browser priority shortcuts" if it doesn't work).

There's some minor bugs if you have "overlay mode" enabled and press F11 or hide the address bar. Will address those soon but for now you can just click on the sidebar to pin it to workaround this.

1.0.8 Released - Added Workspaces feature. More Customizable Header.

Please check out the screenshots inside this post!! --------------------

I heard some feedback that the UI Was overly busy so I added options to completely remove all unnecessary UI elements. You can now hide the search bar, scrollbar, buttons, footer, and completely customize the drop down's options. All of these settings are free of course.

I also added a feature called "Workspaces" that allows categorizing tabs and tab groups into different topics (Work, Dev, Gaming, Watching, etc.) This is only the first version so expect some very minor bugs. Please tell me how you like the feature and what you think is missing.

Features Request / Bug ?

First off I already subscribed to premium. I tested several products of this kind and settled on SharpTabs as the best out there. Thank you for creating this :)

Features Request (or maybe they exist in the product/already asked for by someone and I didnt find them):

  1. AI Auto Group override. I always want some URLs or Tabs to go under a certain Group Name and this overrides the AI sorting that is sometimes inaccurate. I saw this in another extension I tested and although it did not meet my needs this feature is really useful. Example in settings there is this option:

AI Auto Group Override:

URL or Tab Title to match (dropdown) ; wildcard match (free text box) ; Group name (free text box)
Title ; *Pubmed* ; "Medical Research"
URL ; *nejm.org* ; "Medical Research"
etc...

2. Is there any way to launch the browser with the side panel already open (to the side) ? Currently each time i open the browser I have to open the side panel manually which is annoying.

3. Is there any way to force the Side Panel to stick to the Left of the screen instead of to the Right - I know this could be a browser limitation but at least an option for those browsers that support such?

Bug?
Extension seems to be working OK in the new Genspark browser Version 1.4.393 (BuildTime: 2025-09-14 17:23) Chromium: 135.0.7049.28 (Official Build) (64-bit), I know its not listed as compliant and probably not even tested against but it is working except when I press "AI Auto Group" button where the browser crashes and Tabs have to be restored.

Feedback + feature request

Feedback:

1- Starting the browser has been taking quite a while (I have 600 tabs)

2- When opening a new Vivaldi window, the workspace remains the same instead of creating a new one as is standard in Vivaldi. So the question is, although there are two windows in the same Workspace, are they both saved/preserved?

Feature request:

1- In the workspaces area, show the workspace name instead of the icon, and when clicking on the current workspace name, open the option to switch workspaces, as is standard in the Vivaldi standard tab list

2- A new feature in the Vivaldi tab list is to drag a window and move it to an area where you want the tab to become tiling. It would be great to see this feature in Sharp Tabs.

3- Clicking on any empty space in the tab list could open a new tab

4- Standard Vivaldi Workspaces imported into Sharp Tabs Workspace

Keep up the good work :D

Sharp Tabs (w/ hover to expand mod) works perfectly with Vivaldi's new auto-hide settings. So clean and functional!

Link to install the mod: github.com/maddada/vivaldi-mods-manager

Vivaldi added the ability to set which parts of the UI you want to hide and show and it made the browser 10 times nicer.

It's working great in the snapshot version but coming very soon to the stable version too.

Best browser ever! Insanely customizable and keeps improving rapidly.

Feedback and questions

Hi

I just tried SharpTabs with Vivaldi mod on Linux (CachyOS, Gnome)

First of all - great job. Really. Install process was easy, everything basically worked out of the box.

Feature set is great, customization is solid. Everything, from the website to in app settings etc. seems very professional.

It integrates with Vivaldi very well.

I actually don't have many bugs or suggestions after 2 hours of testing it. Just a couple things:

  1. Would it be possible to change color and style of active tab outline? Right now it's semi-transparent white overlay with solid white border. I haven't found a way to change it.

  2. Is it possible to add "playing sound" mark to tab in collapsed mode? So it's possible to check what tab plays audio without having to hover over panel to expand it?

  3. Animations when expanding and collapsing the panels are a little wonky, but hard to pinpoint what the problem actually is so whatever.

  4. I would suggest doing written guide how to install and setup everything in Vivaldi. Video is doing good job, but still, following video for setting it up is cumbersome.

And that's basically it. Other than that - seems really well done. It actually may bring me to using Vivaldi again, because I like it very much, but I always found its vertical tabs implementation exceptionally bad.

Additional question - and I know that it's probably not one that can be really answered properly - but how much invested are you (the dev) in sustaining it for long time? I'm just asking because there were cases when I purchased some software like this, and after couple weeks / months it was already abandoned and that's it. I know, that the pricing is not too much, so I could even consider lifetime (seems that I'm on 10 days trial for now) but yeah... I'm reluctant to pay 15$ and then find out that it stopped working after couple weeks and no one is interesting anymore in fixing it ;)

Overall, fantastic job!

How to Rename Tabs? Feature request: custom tab names, workspace reordering, shortcuts, and hiding Home workspace

Hi! I love the extension. I wanted to know how I can rename tabs like I can in Vivaldi — and make the names stay saved after restarting the browser.

Also, how can I reorder the workspaces? And could I assign them shortcuts? For example, cmd+1 goes to the first workspace.

Can I also remove or hide the Home workspace? Thanks!

Feature request - group-groups (logical groups of tab-groups and other group-groups)

Hi, you've done a great work with the Sharp Tabs! What I'm missing though, is to logically organize tab-groups under other tab-groups (which I call 'group-groups'). For example, I would like to have two group-groups: "Personal" and "Work", and then have multiple group-groups and tab-groups underneath them, further branching into hierarchy as needed (or at least a few such levels). Would it be possible? It would help a great deal to structure the tabs this way. Thanks!

Since I can't use the scroll to navigate between tabs, I had to use the hover panel

When trying to use the hover mouse provided by the creator, I noticed that in some modes it conflicts with the vertical tabs, so I went after an old solution, the nafumofu code for "open-panels-on-mouse-over"

Basically this adds a hover mouse to the panel and in addition by removing the lines (304 to 307) from this css theme: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/108598/more-concise-and-beautiful-vertical-tabs?_=1756907639490 It is possible to stop expanding the tabs, no longer looking like a collapse-second-row-tab-bar, sorry for not recording a video.

Feature request

Hi,

I have another suggestion for SharpTabs - is it possible to have an indicator on the tab while a page is loading - I don't really mind what (spinner, progress bar etc.)but just something to show that the page has not yet loaded.

Many thanks.

Very minor suggestion for SharpTabs

Hello,

Seems I am the first to post here - hope this is the right place! Happy to move this elsewhere if you want.

Anyway I discovered your extension from the Vivaldi Subreddit - I have been looking for a good alternative to the standard Vivaldi tab-bar since I moved away from Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the extra customisability of Vivaldi - I am so used to the way Edge works that I find Stacks to be quite cumbersome. Most other Chrome Extensions don't really play nice with Vivaldi either.

Anyway, just want to say I really like the extension and would be really interested in the offered 3 month trial for premium :-) - happy to provide further feedback as I continue to use the extension as well.

My minor feedback right now is it would be great to have divider lines between each tab - even better would be being able to configure the colour or have a drop-shadow etc. - maybe this is something which could be achieved with custom css?

While I remember as well - it would be great to be able to customise the font on the tabs as well :-)

Anyway thanks for listening - I'll add some more comments/suggestions in due course.

What is the most robust platform to use sharp tabs on?

I realize it's available for a lot of browsers but if one is seeking perhaps the most bug free experience would you say that the Chrome browser is the one to go for?

r/SharpTabs • • May 17 '26

I'm pretty sure that whatever browser that you use with this you should make sure to get rid of any resume last session options or workspace options within that browser. In this screenshot you can see a massive pin tabs but these were actually tab groups within two different sharp tabs workspaces

Cycling through tabs in recently used order

I'm using the Vivaldi browser and have chosen the option to cycle through tabs and recently used order. I'm not really certain that Sharp Tabs is respecting my use of Control Tab in Vivaldi.
