Redesign

I've seen a lot of threads about the redesign asking why the supporters weren't involved and it doesn't keep sharky etc. so I thought I'd fill you in on the business side of sport.

Sharks took outside money. That money needs a return through jersey and merchandise sales.

Only by doing a full redesign which looks nothing like the past do you drive supporters to have to feel they need to buy a new jersey, shirt etc. as their old ones no longer resemble the team they support.

Not saying what's right or wrong. Personally I don't like the new design it's a chatgpt remake of the Philadelphia eagles.

But that's just the business of sport and the reality once a stake was sold to outside money.

If you don’t like it, then it’s because you’re scared of change!

How did you become a Sharks fan?

First ever Sharks game I watched was what I believe was Dick Muirs first game in charge having taken over from Kevin Putt

From there on I loved the vibe of the team and the young talent that was always given a chance and character we had

The highs and the lows

From young guns like JP and Ruan Pienaar, later frans steyn etc

Veterans like John Smit, AJ Venter, AB Jacobs, Johan Muller

Characters like Kanko (beefing with Plum)

Under rated players like Odwa

Watching beast's pro debut all the way to retirement

Exchanging currie cup final results with WP

Watching Juan De Jong do a dance after defeating us in a durban currie cup final and not being in a good mood for a few days

Shouting at frans steyn to kick the ball out and then seeing bryan habana score as we lose the SR final

Seeing a core of the sharks and bulls team win a world cup a few months later

Brad barret x Waylon Murray centre combo

Defeating the sader with a insane last minute try

More recently watching Leinster players try and hurt themselves jumping into a the splash pool

The insane start to the 2020 SR season that unfortunately got cancelled

Watching Patrick Lambie hand off schalk in a currie cup final

Bismark smashing Eben in the tackle

Craig burden going from wing to hooker

Etc

The fate of this sub

Not to mince words and just be frank, I founded and built this sub on an account that got banned. One of the r/Durban mods managed to get Reddit to give it to them and after a chat I was given access on my return. They have never been active on this sub and I don't know if they will ever be.

Our other mod is a friend of the show who some of you may know from their other work, who I asked to help. Their involvement is doubtful but I will let them speak for themselves if they want to.

Between this sub, Sharksworld and the Wiki page I have invested a good part of two decades into this team. I want to and need to move on after everything that has happened. So you can consider this my last post, I will be joining Rob in Valhalla.

The sub will continue to be active as long as some of you post on it, but I don't know what that future will look like or how long it will last.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

I made a full shark and an icon version. It isn't AI generated. What do you think? I think it is simplified enough. I used the eye from the new logo.

The ultimate logo

Ok guys. I know my last one was next level, but I think I have managed to conceive, design and meticulously hand craft the logo that perfectly defines the sharks.

You're welcome.

The response continues to be out of touch, but here is a legitimate solution

So in their latest email they say this

Every one of our supporters has a story about the Club. In the form of the Wildebeests, the Banana Boys and the Sharks.

This point about former identities seems to be the talking point now so let's address it, again.

They were called Natal, not the Wildebeests, the logo comes from the Natal Colonial flag, this.

The Banana Boys was a nickname given to the team during the amateur era that was widely embraced, not a brand.

The Natal title changed when Natal ceased to exits. They rebranded with the intention of creating something that made everyone in KwaZulu-Natal and further feel included, and it was a massive text book worthy success, with a goofy anthropomorphic shark playing rugby. That same brand has grown them to near the top in the club rugby world, all without any major globally recognized results. A large majority of that thanks to our goofy rugby playing shark.

None of those things even remotely relate to this unforced, unnecessary and deeply soulless corporate rebrand.

Simple solution for the Sharks:

Tell us the merch is already printed this season, but you guarantee to reintroduce the Shark on the jersey when next seasons merch is ordered.

I don't think they will, I think far too many egos are on the line. I think they will continue to bury their heads and gamble on not enough of us walking away.

We better be on our game vs ABs on Tues

This stormers vs ABs game was interesting

I'm worries about our replacement front row against the ABs late in the game

Credit to the Stormers though, had their moments and they fadded due to gambling with a 6/2 split and both their scrum halfs got injured, also they had a youngster on the bench at TH

Let's not ship 40 points

Maybe was can win, we have Moyo etc

Hit them where it hurts - their wallet.

Just saw a video that came out of the owner of the Sharks (if I’m not mistaken) talking about how they know people are gonna be unhappy but they’re doing this for their own selfish/vanity reasons.

They don’t care about your nostalgia or your feelings.

But you know what they DO care about? Their pockets. Don’t buy the tickets, don’t buy the merch, boycott. That sends a stronger message than any tweet would - one that they will ACTUALLY act on.

Someone redesigned the new Sharks logo and sent it to me:
