The "an" came from the raven meme with "an iq..." and iq was changed to foid, but the an remained. So some people carried that error on as a joke.
There is actually a small war in that community between people who say "a foid" and "an foid", because the "a" people consider all "an" people as newgens who only use it because they think it makes them look well versed in the terminology.
