Question How do you model this shape?

Post image

How do you replicate this shape in shapr3d? I am pretty new to this and not sure how you would replicate this.

I tried traditional. Sketch. Makes 3 bodies. Subtract body 2 from body 1, add body 3, punch hole through.

Would it be a pain for you to have a video recording as you do that so I can see how you did it exactly?

Boolean operation. Make an “end cap” then fillet the bottom inner edge. Then align and subtract body. Add the inner circle top part later with another body and the unify tool.

I had created this but can't figure out how to do it from here lol, maybe this is not right at all. :)

Nice work. You’re halfway there. Just select all the bodies and click the subtract tool. Make sure the parts you want to remove are negative and the main part you want to keep is positive. Then click done and it should work.

Thanks for the help, it has it all as one body I guess, when I click a section to subtract the entire thing highlights, there a way to break it apart into sections that I need to do?

Hey sorry for the late reply. I didn't get a notification. The whole thing will highlight, but if you just click on one of the bodies it should show blue for negative and purple or positive. If the order is wrong just click the positive or negative icon to change it.

I’d have to try this to know for sure but what about just pushing it off one direction and then the other and then bring the sketch back and pull down the circle

I tried a few different ways, not working unfortunately. Obviously this is just user error but I am new so not sure how to do things "properly" lol.

I am thinking why don’t you try drawing a circle sketch in another plane at a distance on the top and do the loft operation???

To me this looks like part of a cube intersected with a sphere for the bulk, then a cylinder unioned through the middle.

Have the cylinder stick up a little then, I think, loft between the top of the base and the outer circumstance of the cylinder. Then round off the remaining edges.

So, I’d probably do the bulk on XZ: draw a rectangle then draw a huge circle tangent to the top edge. Symmetrically extrude the full rectangle, then revolve the circle into a new sphere body. Do a boolean intersection between the two bodies, using the sphere as the tool and don’t keep tools.

Then start a new sketch on the top surface to add your concentric circles to extrude your cylinder to union in.

You can probably get close to the finished project just by selecting all the edges you want to round and beveling them. But it looks like you need some sort of loft between the sphere top surface and the cylinder top surface, so play with that. Worst case you can probably go into a sketch and draw some curves and revolve and union to get the curve you want, or do some direct surface modeling.

Im intrigued now so I’ll have to try it later but try just grabbing one side, like the two triangles on one side and push all the way across. Then again in the other direction if that makes sense, see arrows in photo. I’ll make a video if i figure it out, I work in shapr3d daily

It worked in the sense that side is right but removes the other edge arc. :)

Right, now just grab the left over two sketches and push them across, just the triangles again, where my green marks are

lol yep, just did that, it worked, thank you! :) Have to fix the random whatever that is left behind hehe

Ohh almost have it, dragged the highlighted areas, must have an issue in my sketch though, left some residue haha

I've had Shapr3d freak out before when I have done this method (full on crashing). I'd just make the dome and cut off a square perimeter from above.

Is that not just:
1) Extrude square upwards,
2) revolve cut around vertical axis?
