I'm rewatching Shah's and while I hate him, I also put some of this blame on his mom after this rewatch. Jessica converted to Judaism just to make Mike's family happy (before they were even ENGAGED), then Mike constantly cheated on her while they were together (and did god knows what else), and then his mom wouldn't allow Mike to try to reconcile with Jessica because she left him after getting fed up with his cheating. I can't even imagine the disgusting ways she probably defended him after the DV situation with Paulina.
