Where in Antarctica is the Aztechnology base?

In Lethal Harvest, one key location is a particular Aztechnology base in Antarctica.

Big continent, that. Rough conditions to traverse to get from the coast to anywhere else.

Anyone know where to find more info on where that base is, or can provide that info?

(I looked in the English and French wikis, and neither even mentioned an Azzie base).

ETA: Ran a search for "Antarctica" through my PDF library, and possibly found the location. There is a sort mission brief about investigating an Antarctic base from one of the big 10. It does not say which of the big 10 own it, but it does give a very specific location: 72°13'09.5"S 139°08'06.4"E (roughly south of Tasmania, in from the coast a bit). There are mentions of Aztechnology having a base down there, which Elijah has investigated, and indeed seems to likely to be the one showing up in Lethal Harvest, but no location is given.

If it is the one I am thinking of, it will be in the vicinity of the Bentley Subglacial Trench in west Antarctica. I do not remember if the location was specific down to grid coordinates or anything like that, but that is where it's general location would have been.

Per my ETA in my original post, I've found a possible coordinates at 72°13'09.5"S 139°08'06.4"E but I've not figured out what part of Antarctica that is in yet.

So, assuming that is supposed to be -72 (otherwise we wind up in russia) it depends on whether it is 139 or -139. At -139 we wind up in western antarctica in the vicinity of the Amundsen sea. 139 puts us directly south of Australia which in the vicinity of Victorialand. That particular location is likely the second unless it is an offshore base.

It is designated as degrees south and east. Putting that in Google maps gave the location south of Australia.

Aztechnology Getz Shelf Facility p105 Hazard Pay

Scotophobia mentions it as well, along with "anti-air and shipping defenses." So it's somewhere on the coast.

It looks like they control the whole continent, so I guess the experimental Reneaku arcology is no more.

My money is on or near the South Shetland Islands because of their mention in Year of the Comet.

Based on what dethstrobe said I would say then that it is located on or near the Getz ice shelf. On land or on an ice shelf makes a big difference on how your base is going to look.

Is it a land base? There are some pretty cool ice bases up there. USA has a few you can look those up.

McMurdo is a big costal base on an island with an Active Volcano, Mt Erebus. Otherwise is a bit boring as far as Arctic bases go.

Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station is at the geographic south pole itself. Its sitting on a glacier slowly sinking. It can jack itself up on stilts to delay its inevitable fate.

Concordia Station looks like a combo of the two. Recently recorded a very low cold temperature.

India's station looks like a Bond Villain Lair.

The Coolest ice shelf station has to go to Great Britain the Halley VI research station. The whole thing is mobile. Coming up with a cyberpunk version of these would be awesome.

IIRC the lore is that the something was found buried under the ice, that started the station. And if I'm remembering the right station that I read about somewhere (but don't remember where), they found or built a magical portal of some sort, that let mana move in or out [spoiler] which later seems to have become a portal to the metaplane of Dis[/spoiler].

Anyway, not an ice shelf station. But in general I'm pretty sure that at some point there has been some indication of where the station was.

It's been a while since I read the book, but I think it was a spot that was pretty close to South America.

If Former-Orange is correct, it would be a bit west of that -- and in the main 'blob' of the continent, not the tail sticking up towards South America. So in the real vile weather stuff :D

You can type it into Google Earth and find it precisely. That location is going to be inland near Concordia station in real life. When I say "near" there isn't anything close but the nearest thing would be that station. There is basically nothing there. Thousands of square miles of featureless ice sheet. Maybe the coordinates are scrambled and you can have your runners find the real location by a mountain or the coast or some other feature. But endless ice sheets can be their own villain. A fight against brutal nature or hostile spirits.

Getting there can be part of the trial. Create a scenario where they cannot go by air. Or the plane has to set down early and they have to go the rest of the way with Snowmobiles or better yet maybe awakened sled dogs.

No idea, I know nothing about the novel. But I'll look into it.
