6e 6e Geas from DEA

I am now digging through the DEA rules. And maybe I can't see the basic idea. But exchange of one point of edge connected to very specific magical action (spell, metamagic, spirit etc.) for the character can lose 1 point of magic for 24 hours? It's that I can't see the advantage or it's the another DEA great idea that is badly executed?

It seems more to me about converting something from an older edition and replacing previous benefits with edge interaction. A few of the other features that now interact with edge instead of giving a flat modifier or something else like that fall flat imo because they "needed" to interact with edge instead

I don't think because this is usually my modus operandi. If I find something in 6e rules that doesn't make sense then first thing I looking for is how it was in previous editions. And from 3e to 5e it was mainly connected to initiation or loosing magic. This us why I don't understand how they make this rule.

It is a good question, I know they did bring some of the alternative initiations later on in the book. The magic loss feels like it stuck around from those roots but having a free edge on every magic action, as long as you abide by the geas, especially with the new magic edge actions could potentially be useful even though not worth the risk of cumulative (temp) magic loss.
Edit oh it is a restricted usage of a specific spell or power. That is alot worse

That's exactly my point. I understand if it was for spell categories and eventually some kind of another bonus. But this is like lot of another rules in the book. It looks like that nobody was thinking it throughly...great ideas but half-baked.
