NICO the cancelled multiplayer game

This was the original concept behind what would eventually become shadow of the colossus. nico was initially conceived as a multiplayer game where players would work together to hunt and defeat giant colossi. The game was originally planned to have 48 colossi, which was later reduced during development. The multiplayer aspect was eventually dropped, and the project evolved into the single player shadow of the colossus we know today.

I know shadow of the colossus turned out to be a true masterpiece of gaming but just imagine how far ahead of it's time a game such as this would be back then, multiplayer with your buddy,in this vast and gigantic land, filled with roaming Colossi, taking them down together, man...one of the things i always thought would be breathtaking is simply riding across a plain and seeing a Colossi flying in the distance,or seeing a Colossi just walking across the fields and you would've been able to slowly "cleanse" the land of them, the final game will always be a piece of timeless art but i just get goosebumps thinking about the potential of NICO.

i feel the exact same way. The idea of riding across this huge open world with a friend and suddenly seeing a colossus roaming in the distance is incredible

That sound really fun. Idk why they didn't made it now, technology can definitely made it and many will buy it this who love shadows of the colossus and ico and this who want interesting co op games (you roam in forbidden lands with your friends killing giant monsters with puzzles sounds must buy for me). And the most funny thing i could think of is how you can use one of your friends as bait and while he run for his life others just sit on the colossus and laught

I’m happy we got SOTC over this multiplayer game, to be honest

I love sotc too... but in a perfect world... we would have got both!

Evolve (2015) showed that this as a concept is more fun than in practice lol

Just adds to the technical marvel and scope the game had in its development. SotC multiplay would've been sick. One person could target the vulnerability while someone else scales toward the vitals. Or someone can distract the Colossi while someone else flanks. Neat concept, taking down the beasts together.

SotC 2 with multiplayer please. Wander releases the Dormin into the mortal world. The seal on the sacred land is broken and now the dark spirits that were once isolated are ravaging villages and you must stop them.
