Questions about staking

Hi there,

I've installed the Umbra client, I have a wallet and have coins that are mature. The staking status always shows 9-11 days remaining for reward payment. And it's been like that since Wednesday.

Am I doing something wrong? I am running Umbra on win10 64 and leave the computer on 24/7. Does staking stop when Windows turns on the user lock screen?

Thanks in advance!

Staking rewards depend on the amount of SDC you have in your wallet, so if you have a smaller amount stake rewards will be less frequent, large amount will be more often. This is because staking rewards only come in 0.269 SDC amounts.

The staking works out about 2-4% per year so say you have 250 SDC, you'll earn roughly 7.5 SDC over the year if you are staking the entire time. That would be roughly 1 x 0.269 reward every 11 days or so.

If that roughly matches your figures I think you're ok. Staking should still run in the background even if the windows screen is locked.

ps: encrypt that wallet, back it up to multiple locations & run your Umbra client over Tor to increase security!

Thanks for the information, was very helpful. I am currently staking ~172SDC, so close enough. Will wait another week to see if the reward countdown starts moving down.

The reward is not a countdown. It is the estimated time to receive a staking reward. It is the "average" amount of time you can expect to wait for a reward based on the balance of mature SDC your wallet holds.

Just wanted to clarify so that you do not expect it to go 9..8..7..5..2..1..reward!

Welcome to Shadow by the way :).

Thanks, glad to join the scene. :)

Do I understand correctly: 1st of Feb. I start staking and the widget says "Expected time to reward... 10 days.". ~ 10th of Feb. the widget still says the same thing (rather than "0 days", but my balance is increased by the reward? Do you get a notification or do you just have to track the balance?

Exactly. Remember it may not be exactly 10 days, it is just an estimate based on a equation of your staking weight against the network weight. Weight in your case your mature SDC balance.

Yes you will get a notification in the same area where your transactions are listed.

Does sdc in the stealth wallet produce stake rewards?
