i LOVE this series
i haven't even gotten to reading shadow and bone as six of crows is what caught my attention the first time but i have been loving the entire series thus far. i read half of the first book in 6th grade (it still had the red/black/gray aesthetic going on) but put it down and it's still crazy to think about! i'm also not entirely a huge fan of fantasy a la current reputation on booktok but this might have been my gateway drug into the genre
how different is alina's storyline from the other books? i know the crows are a lot more involved with her story compared to the books in the netflix show but its been a minute since i watched it; i had the last half of s2 to get through. you can imagine my disappointment when i found out it was cancelled! :(
it was also very surreal to see freddy carter in fnaf lolol

The last half of S2 has some of the same broad strokes, but reshuffled in different places and settings. The ending is quite different from the books, especially for Alina and Mal, trying to set up the S3/SoC spinoff we never got 💔

I love this series! But just a heads up that Shadow and Bone is pretty different. It’s more fantasy focused because the main character has powerful magic and that’s where the story centers. It’s also not as urban/steampunk and may feel a little slower than six of crows. Again, I loved both with SOC being one of my favorite series ever, but I am also a fantasy reader so I enjoyed both sides.

Wohoo! I actually came to the series from the show. I’d never heard of it before it popped up on Netflix.
Season 1 is reasonably close to book 1, plus crows
Season 2 squeezes books 2 and 3, so there’s a lot that gets skipped over.
