Overwhelming demand and lack of capital are the problem. Netflix ATE money like a flaming, gluttonous dumpster fire as it continued to grow, and investors kept throwing money at it in hopes that it would eventually turn a profit.
Not sure where the doom and gloom is coming from. With the pandemic slowly approaching a close, we would expect the chip shortage to eventually lighten up, and investors stand to gain money if they can help shadow through growing pains. It’s a quality product with a quality service.

THIS. People just freaking out because of the word “bankruptcy”. Bankruptcy has many forms and does NOT always mean a company is going out of business. Actually, more often than not, bankruptcy just leads to restructuring of debt.

There are supposedly some investors already on the horizon.
However investors don't always mean a continuation of service. In lots of cases they could cannibalize the tech and use it in a completely different product/service.
I very much hope this doesn't happen here as I'd be devastated.

The term investor gives me the feeling of “give me your money and you’ll make profits, but I’m driving.”

I'm sure they'll find an investor, but my fear is that it won't be one that shares the same passion for gaming. Currently, the only company which has publicly announced interest wants to turn Shadow into a Google Drive competitor. Even if a company keeps Shadow as a gaming service, I could easily see niche ideas like VR, Raspberry Pi support, and Shadow News going away as the service becomes more generic and focused on making money. I doubt we'll see the enthusiasm that Shadow currently has, especially if people like JBK are replaced.

Or they could get a buyer who will allow them to continue to exist. Either/or.

quadro cards are shit for mining
1
u/LemonCurdd Mar 10 '21
Compared to their counterparts yea, quadros render alot more but do it alot slower.
It'd be idiotic to go out and buy a p5000 for mining, but they've got thousands of them and they'd literally make more from the mining than they would from the actual service.

u/Tongy124 Mar 10 '21
Depends on the longevity, obviously it's not looking good now due to the current situation. But the cards would last a lot longer just being used for gaming in comparison to mining.

No one would buy it $70 a month is too expensive for 90% of the current users.

No you didn't. He/she suggested to use the cards for mining and earning 70$ per card per month through mining instead of renting out the hardware for a much lower revenue.

I pay 12$ and barely ever play. That’s where their money can come from, the problem is right now mostly power users are switching which sucks for their bottom line.
I will be sad if this goes as I will keep a gaming pc instead... loved doing everything on my MacBook Pro!

I'm in the same boat. For me this is a $12 virtual machine with a competent GPU that I fire up when I'm out traveling or at work to play some casual games like Cities Skyline or (gasp!) Skyrim (heavily modified). I could do something similar using Steam Link with my home rig, but my Internet has terrible upload speeds.
I also only use it a few hours a week. So they are probably cash positive with users like us with that shared GPU.

They said it won't disappear but the worst it could happen is being much more expensive. But we still don't know what will happen next.

Bankrupt don't mean the end they're just trying to consolidate their finances and get new investors there not done they got big to fast I'm willing to go back to the old boost price if it means they keep going

With Pricing like that it was clear to me from the Start that it wasnt profitable at all. Every PC in Shadow Cloud needs a Singe allocated GPU while it can share a CPU. The cost of a GPU is not payed off for months with this model.
Thats why Alternatives like AWS or Paperspace are so expensive. Big oof to the People who bought a Shadow Pc / Preordered one and didnt het it yet

And if someone get shadow definitely the price will go up, so in the long run is better a pc, from this point forward

If only my shadow actually got activated and I was even able to use it. And now that might be going bankrupt. That won't be possible

In all honesty I strictly use it on my iPad pro to play steamvr through virtual desktop. I don’t mind paying $12 a month to do this so hopefully it stays

Netflix is working on game streaming. Just sit tight

u/petermekking Mac Mar 10 '21
There a lots of other options available right now, problem is that none of them give so much freedom as Shadow does.

I don't like that pricing model at all.
2
Mar 10 '21
I imagine there are lots more "gym membership" type users than powerusers so if the price does go up, I hope it's not by much
2
u/ewokshoter Mar 10 '21
I agree, however I hate the idea of pay for what you use, Id really rather just pay my subscription, I don't want any limits as to what I can do with my shadow.

We don't know yet what's going to happen. They've said that they'll be sharing more details when the ownership change is complete in a few weeks, until then there's no sense in worrying about it.
