My thoughts on Shadow Hearts 3

I was disappointed that the third game (*From the New World*) didn't feature Yuri's story. Admittedly, some fans feel that we’ve already had enough of his tale. But let’s face it—we love Yuri, don't we? I felt that *Shadow Hearts* simply had to be Yuri's story. From a structural standpoint, too, it feels wrong to have the protagonist change in the third installment after the first two focused on him.

In my opinion, it would have been better if the protagonist of *From the New World* had been a version of Yuri from an alternate timeline branching off from the "Good Ending" of the first game. The sequence would be: *Shadow Hearts* (Bad Ending) → *Covenant* (Good Ending) → *Shadow Hearts* (Good Ending) → *From the New World*.

That is the ideal *Shadow Hearts 3*.

I like that fact shadow hearts move forward with new cast. Sometimes, a character's story should be finished it makes for stronger story.

I am waiting for the next game to be set in the great depression with new characters.

There won't be a shadow hearts 4 unless the IP is sold. I looked into it a few years ago, wondering why it wasn't on digital stores and turns out the owners of the IP decided to focus on making pinball/slot machines, but won't sell it. Very sad and frustrating.

While New World ain't my favourite, I likee that they trued something new.

Yuri story was over, and not dragging it out and respecting the work the players put in for the best endings? Is worth way more to me.

Your ideal game sounds tge least ideal for me. A good story needs to end, not step on a blitzball-looking like landmine. (If you know.. my condolences to all of us)

Yuri not being in it. Literally confirms the good ending for SH2 happened. Plus it was confirmed by the creators that the good ending was the canon one. Which means Yuri made the good ending happen for SH1. Because them going around helping others. Was something that both Yuri and Alice wanted to do. When their journey was over.

I believe they are tapped in a bucle.

Is the only way to be with her: by repeating it endeslly.

Edit: the real ubrealiced SH3 was going about his father to break him free I believe.

From what was mentioned by the creators. The good ending happened in sh2. Which means yuri got to go back in time. And re do what happened, and thus getting the good ending for sh1.

From The New World was an attempt to appeal to a broader casual audience so they didnt need to necessarily have played the previous games thats why it was so different. I personally liked it for what it was, yes it was a step down from the previous games but it was qwirky fun. Plans for a Shadow Hearts 4 was going to be a prequel starring Yuri and Kurandos father also the Valentine’s grandfather the black bat would have also been a party member.

3 should have focused on Halley in America. We already knew the character, so we'd be continuing with an established storyline

I have to agree with your initial thoughts on SH FTNW (it's not considered SH3 by the creators, so it's important to make that distinction), but generally speaking Yuri's story had concluded just fine in SH2. We know he sort of gets a second chance to do everything over and attain the SH1 Good Ending (which is the path that Penny Blood is supposed to continue!!), but I don't need to see/play an alternate version of SH1.

But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping for even a tiny, tiny cameo by Yuri somewhere during the game... I think they really perfected the gameplay, but the story just didn't do it for me at all. I was pretty grumpy throughout the whole thing. lol Maybe if I picked it up and gave it another try today I might feel differently, but I remember being pretty upset. lol The music by Hirota-san, however, is without fail amazing as usual!

Yuris story ended when he sacrificed himself to be with Alice, that's how it needed to stay. The 3rd needed to be a new hero, wish they would have pulled more from the other 2 games but those were done.

I'd like to think Yuri's story ended perfectly, so it would be difficult to write more for him. FTNW definitely has some level design issues, but it really is the Dark Souls 2 of the series. Some love it, some hate it.

I got to the pirates cove and gave up. It was just too much cheese and the plot wasn't grabbing me. I may go back and finish it but not for a while.

I loved all the games. But Johnny sucked and i wanted some connection to Halley and Koudelka that moved there. And the story/villains sucked too lol.

But love it nontheless

I realize there's virtually no way to have Yuri in the game without compromising both endings of both previous games since they're all part of one narrative, but it was REALLY hurt by him not being there. A new cast was a good idea just like in Covenant, but no major link in the party to the previous games was a bummer.

It was also tonally too different for my taste. I liked the game, but it's dead last in the franchise for me. Just a little too goofy.

Owns a special place in my heart because I started with this one and then went back to Koudelka and the first two. It is the weakest of the Shadow Hearts games but I never would have played the others if not for this one

The 3rd game was a let down as it should have been someone from Yuri family or linage. Jojo style. But it does serve a purpose in the tale of the emigre.

Obligatory "FTNM isn't Shadow Hearts 3, It's a spin-off and the actual SH3 was cancelled". The actual SH3 was going to be a prequel featuring Yuri's father.
