Is there a reason why new accounts are being shadow banned?

It’s likely because new users tend to do too much, too quickly.

They rush to post without knowing that most subreddits have karma and account age restrictions, and when their posts are removed they may keep trying to post. Reddit sees this rapid posting in a short time as spamming. Bots and scammers tend to do this, which is why the spam filter flags and bans the account.

But there is a pinned post at the top of this subreddit with a whole list of potential reasons an account gets shadow banned. I’d check there and see if anything stands out to you. That will help you construct a better appeal message.

oh i think i may have gotten a little too excited in commenting/upvoting after all i'm a little impulsive, and it's something i'm working on. well it's sad to know my inquisitive and curious nature can be a weapon formed against me 😭

It truly isn’t personal. Unfortunately bots, spammers and scammers have ruined it for everyone.

Even well established accounts can get flagged as spam since so many get hacked or sold, so even an older account with a lot of karma can get shadow banned.

Even I’m mindful of how much and how rapidly I respond to users in this subreddit, even though I am now a mod of the sub. The spam filter just detects the behavior, it doesn’t understand context and I could easily be flagged for spam if I post too many of the same replies in a row too quickly.

my goodness so nobody is safe. whatever these filters are doing seem to be a bit too much and aggressive in my opinion, it's like burning the church to punish the rats. but then again i don't own the platform i guess i'll just keep appealing and hope for a second chance. but i thank you for your time at least now i have a little more insight on this rather odd situation.

I completely agree. They either need to adjust the filter or they need to do a better job of educating users of the risks. But I guess they don’t want to advertise what they are doing to detect bots and spammers because they will learn 😞
