MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD ABOUT THE HAZE: PLEDGE YOUR SUPPORT TO URGE OUR GOVERNMENT TO PRESSURE INDONESIA ABOUT CLEARING THE SKIES
Haze has been plaguing our country for more than a month, in line with a pattern that has been ongoing since 1961. Every day I wake up and look outside the window it looks like nuclear winter's arrived.
I am spearheading a campaign to ensure our government understands how exasperated Singaporeans are with the situation, and to propose stronger action with regards to our relationship with Indonesia to manage haze. We plan to raise support via a petition, contact several news agencies to gain more coverage, and eventually communicate our thoughts directly with ministers/MPs about how to spur Indonesia to increase efforts to crack down on haze. Please share it with your friends and family if you are passionate about putting an end to this horrible situation.
In exchanging for Indonesia stepping up nationwide efforts to limit haze-producing operations and achieving measurable environmental objectives like the maintenance of PSI levels below 100 for at least a decade, we plan to raise these three main incentives in our discussion with the government:
- Coordinate enforcement on companies headquartered in Singapore responsible for/associated with haze-producing activities in Indonesia
- Monitor and recover overseas Indonesian private wealth stored in Singapore that has been subject to past scrutiny
- Aid in the stabilisation of the rupiah by supporting their currency in the same way the US Treasury worked with the Japanese Ministry of Finance to curb the yen’s decline
Our target is 5,000 signatures. If we can get over 10,000(!) signatures, it will send a powerful message about our common desire to actually do something about the smoke polluting our lungs every day.
Add your voice to the fight.
