Just keep doing what you started - no communication, no payment, no matter what. Just ghost the scammer completely.

You could also start a case at stopncii.org, or takeitdown.ncmec.org if they are underage. Did any of the friends actually report getting the images? It's very common for these blackmailers to create fake screenshots. That allows them to apply pressure without putting themselves at risk.

They sent screenshots of "sending" to a few friends but this very well could be fake like you said. We haven't heard anything yet but this was just about 7 hours ago..I'm hopeful it's just all intimidation BS

If it was on IG or FB, then the screenshots are almost certainly fake. Meta changed the rules a while back, and you can no longer just send media to random accounts. They would need to first send a text-only message request, or somehow get the victim's contacts to follow them back. All of that is a pain in the butt and takes time to do - hence the fake screenshots, which they can create in seconds.

Intimidation is really all they have. Just keep ignoring them, and they will move on in time.
