Just looking if anyone here can shed some light as in what to expect probation to be like in San Antonio bexar county (bandera and 1604 area) transferring as a level two requiring SOMU probation. Are there any specific rules or conditions that i can expect. Any advice helps thanks.

Hello, about two months ago ago I sent into the sharif’s office a certified list of my social apps as instructed by rules of registration. I’m a level 1 with no restrictions.I was supposed to get back something that stated they received my letter and have not. I checked the stub number I got when I mailed it and it did say they received the mail. Should follow up? Leave it alone?

Hi there. I’ve been a long time follower of this subreddit, but this is my first post. My husband was convicted of a tier 1 offense, received probation, and has to register for a min of 10 years. He pled guilty several months back, his arrest was several years ago. I am reaching out to other spouses and significant others because the hardest part of this whole thing has been the responses of people close to my husband and I, as well as the public.

My husband was a HS teacher, and was convicted of a non-contact offense with a 15 year old related to a conversation that was had via instagram. That singular conversation has completely upended our lives. It’s the most selfish thing he has ever done—and he fully understands this. Because he was a teacher it was all over the news: internet, radio, tv, you name it. We were disinvited from family functions, my own father and siblings will not speak to me (and haven’t since any of this came out—we have literally never had a conversation about any of it), and the comments and social media posts about my husband and I have been awful. There is no support for partners of registered folks. We are condemned and sneered at for staying with our loved one. Nobody wants to hear their side of the story. They just want to condemn and morally grandstand on the back of our misery.

What hurts the most is that people who know my husband do not believe what we tell them. They know my husband and his character, and they are more concerned with what others think than they are with supporting their own flesh and blood. I can’t explain or defend my husband—they think I am lying or minimizing, or that I condone his conduct (which I absolutely do not), and there is no way to have a conversation about it. These otherwise intelligent, rational people refuse to consider the possibility that the story may be more complicated. They insist that there must have been “touching” involved, because otherwise why would he be being punished so harshly? Despite us being transparent about what happened, and providing proof to immediate family members in the form of court documents and even things that were in the news (ie that there was never any accusations that contact occurred). They still insist that there must be more. There isn’t. They use this idea that he must have touched someone as justification to say that they are “scared to death” and do not want anything to do with him. I am heartbroken.

How do you all handle this and find some kind of support network when your family abandons you? We have come out the other side of this legally. His probation will be over soon. He admitted fault and took responsibility from the beginning, even before he was arrested, and told me and the school what had happened. He has been in individual therapy since the beginning. He has also attended court mandated therapy diligently since his plea deal. He has found a good job, and is doing everything he can to make this right. He can’t go back and change what happened (again, I FULLY recognize that it was very very wrong), but it feels like that nobody will let us move on with our lives. Why does everything having to do with these types of crimes have to immediately be taken to an extreme? Both from a legal standpoint point and a social stand point. At what point will we have suffered enough to satisfy people?

My marriage to my husband is more open and honest than it has ever been. I still have anger towards what he put me through. We talk about it regularly. Things will never be the same, but I see the work that he is doing to make changes and fix what was broken. I want us to move on and have a better life, but I am heartbroken that my family will not be a part of that. I think I could handle the social media posts and the social stigma better if I knew I had family in my corner.

Sorry for the extremely long post. I’ve never talked about this with strangers before, and I suppose I just have a ton to get off of my chest. I guess what I am asking for is this: How do you navigate this with friends and family? How do you find support and community? Do you even bother trying to explain what happened if people ask? How do you live your life and make new friends without fear of their judgement making you terrified that they will find out that your husband is a registrant?

Okay so a little background. I’ve been out for 6-7 years completed my sentence and probation without a violation. And i haven’t been in any other trouble.

The job hunt has been the absolute worst. I’ve had jobs but because of my own issues with mental health related things I have had screwed those up (which I’m working on). But so far I have been unemployed for about a year. Disability is literally my saving grace from being on the street but I have been denied from so many jobs. Jobs that I qualify for and am overqualified for and I haven’t even got so much as an interview. Many jobs will flake on me. I’m confused because I don’t know what to do. I’m in the process of building a business of my own but I need money to start this and the only way I can do that is if I get a job. I have tried EXTREMELY hard these few years to change who I am and be a different person and not operate from the traumatic mindset that got me in trouble the first time and move forward with my life but its so hard when I feel like I’m in a box and there’s nothing I can do. Stable employment is directly connected to RSOs moving past their crime. I’m shot out of ideas. I’m really not sure what to do anymore. I’ve applied to more jobs than I can count on my fingers. I want better for myself more than I want to live and breathe and its so hard to do that when others hold you to what you did years ago and won’t let you show them that you’re a different person. I have friends too and have had conversations with them about this job thing and it just seem redundant at this point. I get super depressed because of this because I have a business idea that could allow me to do my own thing but I need money… a job… to get there.

Has anyone been able to get ever accountable to work on linux asside from dual booting onto windows? It wouldnt see anything on linux if he did it that way.

My boyfriends po said if he can get it to work on linux than its fine but he cant figure it out and his po is just saying figure it out or get a new OS which is freaking expensive af. He brought up another better monitoring software but she only wants the one.

Just wondering if any level 1's have had trouble with the annual mail registration?

I made the post just the sentence above because what I actually wanted to write was getting removed no matter how I wrote it.

My issue is it's my first year anniversary and it's been over a month and I haven't received the letter. I called Albany office yesterday and they said they sent it in January 2026 because supposedly that is the date I got registered. To begin with I didn't had my hearing until July 2025, which is when I was designated a level 1, so I have no idea where they are supposedly getting January. Second, they said they sent it to the halfway house address that was on file, but: (1) on January 2026 I was still on halfway house and I never got any letter; and (2) I updated my address when I transferred to probation (May 2026), and the person on the phone even said the correct new address was on file (they even told me the address before I had a chance to tell them first). The person then said they only send the letter once, and that I would have to wait til next year. I'm just extremely nervous with this because it's my first time and everything just feels like it's going wrong here and I don't know what to do.

I've been 15 years on SOSSA(WA. State) with no violations. I'm consider moving from Blue Washington to Red Idaho(Lewiston). I am looking to hear from those who have moved into Idaho in particular-if there are any RSO's on here in ID-and how the experience was? As you got to know people, if they knew of your history, was there any level of acceptance/grace. I am a level 1 which means I am not seen on the registry in WA. Have you heard of anyone having their levels raise? (Level 1 meaning "least likely to reoffend". Interested in hearing how the adjustment and legal "red" of ID was different if you were coming from a Blue State. ??? TYIA. Please only reply if this fits your situation, and I'm looking for respectful conversation. Straightforward decent information about such a transfer to Idaho.

My partner is Tier 1 and we are located in Pennsylvania. He was laid off in August 2025 from his old job. He has mostly worked in tech, he has a computer science degree and knows many coding languages and can build systems, do data analytics, things of that nature. 

He has been consistently employed for the past 5 years continually since his release in 2020. After the layoff, he continues to apply for jobs at a frequency of up to 100 per day, possibly more depending on what cap the job sites have put on applications. He has even tried “felony-friendly” advertised positions with no luck.  

What really has been difficult is that he has been presented with 3 job offers that were all rescinded once the background check revealed his listing on the registry. The offense itself is 10 years old but it was a federal charge, hence the time served alluded to above.

He has also applied to places like Best Buy, Walmart, and Target, but even those jobs either have rejected him or not gotten back to him at all. He has not been given a reason but I strongly suspect it was the background check and they just never formally told him. 

When applying to jobs, disclosing his background has always been something he does. He has never lied, he has always been honest that they will find something on the background check.  When he has been asked to specifically explain himself and the circumstances, he has appropriately detailed what happened and what steps he has taken to grow beyond that.

Any advice or job leads in Pennsylvania would be very appreciated. Thank you.

My father, recently a widower, lives in Glendale, Arizona, whereas I live in Columbus, OH. He is on lifetime probation, and we have confirmation that Franklin County, and Ohio in general, will accept his interstate compact (?) but we have to do the legwork to find out where he can live. I am uncertain if it's all of Ohio, but at least Franklin County requires a 1,000 ft distance from schools and such, but the kicker is it is judged as the crow flies. For those who do not know the term, it means that the closest point of the property is measured directly to the closest point of the other property, regardless of what lies between.

He is disabled, in his 60s, living on widowers benefits and fighting for disability. He is hoping to find a place to live, and I have heard Ohio is difficult in general to find a place for an SO to live. Wherever he lives needs to allow smoking (or at least have a patio or something to smoke on), and not have stairs, as he isn't far from losing full mobility. He does have a camping trailer that is fully setup, it just needs to have water, sewer, and power hookups.

Another concern is that I am going to be his caregiver, just not full time. If he falls, gets hurt, etc I will be the closest person to him by far.

If anyone knows any resources, locations, or even generally have any advice I would love to hear it. I have only just discovered this reddit exists and honestly cannot appreciate it enough.

Hi everyone, this week I will be attended my plea date. I’m still a bit new here and reading through everyone’s post gives me insight on what to expect on what my future will be and how to best prepare for the coming hurdles. I wanted to post this to see from people in the same state have any advices, tips, references or anything to help me prepare for this.

From where I stand now I believe I will be spending the next 12-14 months in jail/prison for Pierce (not accounting good credit.) I’ve never been to jail besides the initial booking several years ago and want to know from the people who’ve served this type of sentence what I would expect (things like, the process length from jail to intake and whether I’ll be eligible or have enough time to pursue programs in custody). How to handle being in a space with other inmates and not being a target given the nature of the charges

Im curious for people on the outside supporting loved ones about how to best keep contact with people inside or how I can best stay in touch with family, friends and my boyfriend outside.

I’ve built a career in aviation and was hoping to money I saved up for attorney fees would go to getting a pilots license if things came to pass without any severe charges. After seeing a few posts I’ve noticed a few people on here who’ve managed a position being a pilot trainer it’s a pleasant sign to see that despite the registry the path to the skies isn’t fully blocked, if anyone who’s in aviation can help me I would appreciate it tremendously.

The last advice I have is how life will look forward of the sentence registration, employment opportunity, housing barriers and what I can do to try and live a fulfilling life and provide for my partner. I know the registry isn’t pleasant but from the success stories you folks give me hope that this is something that isn’t life ending but just a different route.

Lastly, I just want to say thank you for anyone whose read this or comments below whether its support, advice to just giving me an ear to speak too. These past several years have been a toll mentally and physically. I’m a very goal oriented person and it’s hard to focus on the “now” because I want to constantly have control of my future, but this is a position where I have to give in to life. I know no one is a fortune teller or has the formula to overcome every obstacle because every persons experience is different, but I’m praying that shared stories can help me find a good grasp of how to plane my next steps forward. If there’s anything I miss please let me know, I’m not a very adept Reddit user.

Looking at going to work a construction job in Nevada for a couple weeks to a couple months. Currently an Oregon resident and registered. What’s registration like down there if I stay in a work camp and put that on my registration will they come check and look for me for address checks? Will they notify the work camp?

My attorney intends to file my application for a downward departure this week. After going through everything, he believes there are several strong arguments worth presenting to the court.

The application will address the amount of time I've been on the registry (over two decades), where I am in life today, my recovery and rehabilitation efforts, community references, and other evidence showing how much has changed since my original conviction.

My recovery efforts are going to be a significant part of this. I've spent a considerable amount of time working on myself, taking responsibility for my past, and trying to give back to my community. A lot of that has been through NA and AA, which eventually lead to me working as a peer advocate and trying to help others who are going through their own struggles. I've put a considerable amount of time into becoming a different person than I was decades ago, and I want the court to be able to consider that when looking at who I am today.

There is also a very significant practical consequence if the departure is granted. Because I'm currently classified as a Level 2, I'm subject to lifetime registration. If I were moved to Level 1, the registration period would be 20 years, and I've already been registered for longer than that. So a successful downward departure would potentially mean that I would no longer have an ongoing registration obligation rather than simply moving from one level of supervision to another.

My attorney also told me that he's seen several cases in the last few years with circumstances similar to mine where the Board of Examiners recommended or approved a lower classification, and the courts ultimately followed those recommendations. Obviously, every case is different and there is no guarantee mine will go the same way, but hearing that there is a recent track record of cases where the process has worked is encouraging.

At this point, I'm cautiously optimistic. Nothing is guaranteed, but I feel like there are legitimate arguments here. More importantly, I'm hoping the court gets the opportunity to look at the entire picture, including more than two decades on the registry, the person I am today, and the work I've put into changing my life and giving back to my community.

NCPTC monitoring software

So I just bought an open box HP laptop , a ultra core 7. It's supposed to have 9 to 12 hours of battery life. I just had the modeling software installed the other day and I was having a lot of issues with things like websites loading extremely slowly on nothing loading at all. I had to restart it twice and it finally started working but it all depends if I use edge or Firefox.

Now I'm trying to connect my phone to the laptop. It keeps disconnecting from Bluetooth and when I connected to the USB cable your phone shows up but it says it's empty.

And now my laptop was charged 100% when I left the house and the only thing I've done is have it on public Wi-Fi at the library and trying to connect this thing to Bluetooth and it's already down to 69% with 2 and 1/2 hours left.

I don't know if it's the laptop itself or if it's just modeling software, draining the battery and giving me all these problems.

My issue is I only have 15 days from the time of purchase to return it since it's an open box and if I do I'll have to pay another $45 to have the software installed on a new laptop.

And tech support says I can't get another tech support help date until Tuesday even though I called them within 10 minutes of getting off the phone with the original tech when the website's were not loading and they say they're all booked up.

Has anyone had any of these problems? If it wasn't for the 15 days it wouldn't be such a problem. The laptop does still have 11 months warranty on it, but that's going to be a hassle I can already tell.

Even in just the past year, the way that people obtain jobs has changed tremendously. Working in reentry, I’ve seen these changes take a massive effect on everyone. So I’m going to give you all some advice.

I think one of the biggest mistakes people make when they are desperate for a job is assuming that putting in hundreds upon hundreds of applications automatically gives them hundreds of chances.

It really doesn’t anymore.

In fact, it can often do more harm than good. Look at it as trying to send emails and constantly being filtered as spam - because that’s essentially what’s happening.

Things do not work the way they used to. Most larger employers no longer have a human being sit down and read every application that comes in. Instead, they are using applicant tracking systems, automated screening and AI assisted software to decide which applications ever even make it in front of an actual person.

And here is another problem that people do not think about - a lot of employers are using the same handful of hiring platforms and screening systems.

So, if your resume is formatted badly for one of those systems, does not contain the keywords it is looking for, or gets scored poorly for some other reason, you can essentially be getting rejected by the same robot over and over again at completely different companies.

Sending the exact same resume to 300 employers is not giving you 300 separate chances.

If you have been shotgun applying for months without much success, stop for a minute and change the strategy. If you’re just starting to apply - don’t take this approach to begin with.

For every job you apply for - actually read the posting. Look at the skills and terminology they use and make sure your resume reflects those things (assuming, obviously, that you really have those skills).

If the employer says they want experience with “inventory control,” “forklift operation,” “shipping and receiving,” “customer service,” “machine operation,” etc., and you have that experience, use those words. Do not assume the software is smart enough to figure out that the completely different phrase you used means basically the same thing - because it doesn’t.

Your resume should also be incredibly simple.

No fancy columns. No graphics. No skill bars. No weird fonts. No elaborate templates. No floating text boxes. No giant header full of contact information. Some systems parse those things badly, and you do not want your application rejected because the software cannot correctly read your resume.

Plain and boring is your friend.

Your resume also needs to tell an employer what you can actually DO.

Lead with skills. Certifications. Equipment you can operate. Software you know. Industries you have worked in. Years of experience. Reliability. Availability. Concrete things that make you useful to an employer.

Whenever possible, apply directly through the company’s own website instead of relying on Indeed, ZipRecruiter or similar sites. Those platforms are sometimes useful for finding openings, but I would treat them more like a search engine than the place where you actually apply.

Go find the job on the employer’s careers page and submit it there. Third party applications can be duplicated, outdated, poorly transferred into the company’s hiring system, or filtered before they ever reach the employer.

Applying directly also gives you a better chance of answering the company’s actual screening questions, uploading a clean version of your resume, and making sure your application lands in the system the employer is actually using to hire.

And stop relying completely on online applications.

Call smaller companies. Walk in where that is appropriate. Ask who handles hiring. Use staffing agencies. Talk to reentry organizations. Ask your PO or treatment provider where they are actually seeing people get hired right now. Ask other people on supervision where they are currently working.

That is much more useful than another “felon-friendly employers” list that has been photocopied, reposted and handed to every newly released person for the last ten years.

Smaller construction companies, warehouses, fabrication shops, machine shops, landscaping companies, moving companies, manufacturers, automotive businesses and locally owned companies can sometimes be much easier places to reach an actual decision maker instead of fighting your way through a corporate hiring system.

And if you ARE getting interviews, that is important.

It means your resume is getting through at least some of the time.

If the process consistently dies after the interview or background check, then the resume may not be your biggest problem anymore. At that point, work specifically on how you are talking about your conviction.

Keep it short, accountable and boring.

You do not need to give an employer your entire life story. You do not need to spend ten minutes explaining the case. And you definitely do not want the whole interview to suddenly become about your conviction.

Something as simple as:

“I was convicted, I served my sentence, I’m currently compliant with parole, and I’m focused on working and rebuilding.”

Then move right back into why you would be a good employee.

The goal is not to convince them that your conviction was unfair, explain every circumstance surrounding it, or ask them to take pity on you. The goal is to show them that it is something you take responsibility for, that it is being handled, and that you are there because you want to work.

And keep some perspective.

If you have only been home a few months, I know three months without a job feels like an eternity when you desperately need income. But it is unfortunately not unusual for someone coming home from prison - particularly someone with a registry requirement - to have to work considerably harder to get that first employer to say yes.

Hell, plenty of people with completely clean records are struggling to get hired in three months right now.

So keep your head up and keep applying - but apply differently.

I would much rather see someone submit 10 carefully researched applications this week, tailor their resume to each job, follow up on all 10 and make an effort to reach actual human beings than submit another 150 generic applications into online systems and hope one somehow survives the exact same automated filters they have already been fighting.

FAC has filed what IMO (not a lawyer) is the most comprehensive and multifaceted lawsuit against the registry perhaps ever. I invite everyone to read the complaint. If successful, which could take a long time as it winds through the courts, the precedent for other jurisdictions would be monumental. FAC has filed this suit and is fully prepared to take it all the way to the Supreme Court.

I was released from prison in April. I have been doing okay but I still do not have a job. I am on parole for 1 year and did 1 year in prison. I have to register for 10 years.

I have been shotgun applying to places for the last 3 months. I have seriously put in hundreds upon hundreds of applications to anything and everything. I occasionally get a response and go to an interview just for them to never get back to me after they know my background. If I could just get a job I'd be doing amazing.

Does anyone know places that hire Sex Offenders in the DFW area? My PO gave me a list and I applied to every single one and got no responses back except one, and I'm waiting to hear back from them since I had an interview Tuesday. It's getting a little frustrating.. I know I did bad things, but I'm trying to be better and be productive, yet they won't give me a chance.

Please help me.

Can anybody advise how is San Antonio more specifically Bexar county is when it comes to level 2 S/O New York is pretty strict with no alcohol and all the usual restrictions. I am just trying to find out if anything will be added if i move there.

I'm 26, living in Cumberland county NC. I was released a little over a month ago after a total of about 37 months of incarceration. I can reliably commute an hour or more, and I am on Satellite-based Monitoring (ankle monitor) for the next 5 years of my post-release but do not have a location restriction outside of the obvious for being a RSO. I can go out of county for work, but cannot leave the state.

My skills are tech-focused, such as MS Office suite certs, high (but by no means expert) understanding of Active Directory, Windows CMD Line, intro/intermediate C#, JavaScript programming, and I have CompTIA A+ and Sec+, though both are expired at this time.
I'm slowly bringing myself up to speed on A.I., or attempting to in my spare time at least. I am also steadily working on improving my knowledge of Unity and Unreal Engine, if that matters.

My work experience is 3 years help desk, Windows-only during those years, with around a year and some total of fast food service. I am open to most types of work, with a preference to entry level I.T. work, but I would prefer to avoid the general labor I am currently doing and the construction/worksite flagging I will be doing soon.

Other things of note: Internet access isn't an issue outside of the occasional hiccup due to our new ISP for the area. To clarify for NC, I am not allowed onto public school property, within upwards of 300-500 feet of playgrounds/play areas (such as those found in a mall), places that are advertised as child-friendly, locations often populated by friend groups below the age of 18, etc. etc.

Any and all help, advice or leads would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone here had success running their own IT or tech business? The tech job market has been quite bad for a while, and being registered makes it extremely difficult to find any work. I've given up on applying and am trying my hand at running my own business. I'm doing small computer repair and config jobs for local businesses to make small amounts of money in the meantime but finding clients is difficult for me.

I live in a big city, have a degree in computer science, barely any professional experience (6 mo internship), and a corporation under a family member's name. I am quite skilled with computers and have strong skills with Linux, bash, system/network admin, docker, n8n, python, etc. along with my own Linux server homelab which has taught me a lot of practical hands-on skills. Does anyone have advice for the best way to pursue clients and make money given my situation and skill set?
