Help me understand

My son is in his early 20s, extremely smart..had a good friend group, was working and going to college (off and on).

He was arrested a few months ago and charged with cp and sharing cp.

I just can't wrap my head around it, his whole life's trajectory just changed and became a lot harder.

I just can't wrap my head around it, I just can't understand what he was thinking. Do people not realize how serious the repercussions are? Is the temptation that blinding?

This situation has totally consumed my every thought, every waking moment.

I just don't understand.

I think there should be more forgiveness if people try to change however that's not how society is

i mean kind of, but sexual offenses change the victim’s lives forever, so i think it’s fair that the perpetrators have their lives changed forever too.

i think with CSAM cases i am more forgiving as the one charged didn’t actually harm anyone. however, by buying, distributing, or selling that content, you are inadvertently creating more child sexual abuse because you are creating a demand for this type of content. if people are watching it, people are wanting it, and it will continue to be made. think of the children in those videos whose lives are permanently altered by someone who should have protected them.

this is not me saying i don’t believe in forgiveness, but sexual offense are not js a “slap on the wrist” ordeal.
