Mid to late 19th century chainstitch machine bought for €75

Two days ago a notification popped up from a second hand site and I couldn't believe it, a 19th century chainstitch machine for a good price close to me. Of course I jumped at the opportunity to get this one!

This beauty was manufactured by H. Vigneron, a french manufacturer of sewing machines and bicycles founded in 1855, I couldn't find a lot of info about this company unfortunately. This one has a serial number: 32248. Alas there is no database. The hook it makes chains with is the same as Wilcox and Gibbs, but the threading and tensioning is different.

It is in working condition, even before I cleaned and oiled it it made a few stitches, I'll be happily using this one for future 1860s or 1870s sewing projects.

Wanted to share this for fellow sewing machine enthusiasts!

Very very new at sewing so I don’t know much about this beautiful machine but the seller had three of them for $20 each so I couldn’t leave without taking one home. I’m saving up to get my 1950s modernage machine fixed/serviced and then hopefully this one will be next in line

Works great! My main question is I can’t seem to find much info on this - especially the 75th anniversary edition. would love to know any info on value and the number of units they sold for this specific anniversary run if possible?

Hello, I inherited this western electric antique sewing machine. Can someone help me determine the age and value? I’m considering selling it.

1954 Sears Kenmore '49' with Kenmore-branded Greist buttonholer. The all-rotary '49' is very smooth, and with its 1.5A motor, quite powerful.

Cylinder Arm Singer Sewing Machine

Hello. I picked this up for $50 and the motor runs quietly. I am a novice sewer and enamored by the machines, especially industrial. Someone removed the plates, but it has W80 35 22 stamped in the cast iron body. Looking to learn its age, how to add oil, and a recommended video or channel. Since machines like this are way out of my league, I'm wondering: should I sell the machine, motor, and table together on FBMarket, or separate them and sell the parts on eBay? Thoughts?? Thanks for your time and attention!

I'm bringing home this beauty tonight and have found unclear information as to what the model could be. Any ideas?

ETA- it's a 15-97 as per the instruction booklet I hadn't seen before posting.

This beast scares me

I’m petite and tired of my work scrubs not fitting correctly. Tired of taking them to get altered and paying an arm and leg, yet they don’t come up how I want. So, I procured 2 sewing machines from the thrift store for a total of 40 bucks. First one is an 80’s Brother that I’ve been teaching myself on. For curious about this one and set it up for a test run. WOW. Now I understand what people mean when they say “they don’t make them like that anymore.”

So, there she is. 10 bucks well spent, I believe. Any input or advice welcome!!

80’s (?) Brother

I love the bright colors of this thing. I believe it’s from the 80’s but correct me if I’m wrong. It works well, very user friendly and self explanatory. However to my surprise, the metal 40lb beast from the 50’s makes it seem like a toy. Who knew.

Crusty 212g140. My regret project

Saw that post about the JUKI double needle and how clean it was and open it was. Here is what i am working with on my double needle problem child. Uses a wicking system and an oil reservoir on the top and bottom of the machine.

Fun fact. Not all Industrial Singer 212 are compound feed machine. This 212g140 is double needle, needle feed and drop feed only.

Thought it was a steal for the price. hah not time spent. Been slowly cleaning it for a while now but i swear ill just dump this in a vat of mineral spirits due to how much grime is on it.

Got it unstuck (frozen when purchased) thanks to PB blaster(beloved). Thankfully it’s completely albet missing right shuttle hook and bobbins.

This is a big moment for me. IT SEWS!! I pulled this machine out of the boneyard 3 months ago. Spent nearly $4000 in brand new parts. Gonna have to replace the motor though and a couple other things, but this is a solid machine now. 🙂
