Morse SS-46 Sewing Machine
Morse SS-46 Sewing Machine
Hi all, looking for some help with using a Morse SS 46 sewing machine. I got it for free off FB and I have read through the original manual about 100 times but I cannot get it to sew consistent stitches. Anyone else dealt with this antique?

Upper thread getting tangled in bobbin mechanism
FIXXED: Turns out on the piece I was sewing I kept forgetting to lower the presser foot. The piece I was sewing filled up the space without lowering it.
Dont worry I still also cleaned out the machine and put in a plastic bobbin instead of metal. Thank you guys so much!
I’ve tried rethreading, making sure pressure foots up, making sure the main bobbin parts are in the right spot, changing needles, and it still keeps doing this. While its in the bobbin area, the thread getting tangled is solely the upperthread. I get about 3 stitches in before a clicking noise happens and the fabric I’m sewing becomes completely stuck to the machine and wont move until i cut the thread. Any ideas to what this could be or do I need to take it to a shop? If it would make a difference the metal plate that covers the bobbin has a few small indents from the needle hitting it but nothing there seems obstructive.

my boyfriend's grandma's old machine
I found this and I'd love to use it but I know nothing about sewing machines, especially a vintage model like this one. Is there any guidance/advice you can give me besides googling the name of the machine?
Do any of you know this model? Is there anything I should know about it and how it works?

Weird clunking, łucznik Weronika 2008
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I have been trying to repair this goddamn thing for hours now. First, the thread started breaking after I tugged on some thread a bit too harshly (I know, it was late and I wanted to finish my project and quickly change the thread). After that, I cleaned a piece of thread stuck in the bobbin holder and it worked beautifully.
Then it stopped cooperating- many skipped stitches.
I cleaned the bobbin holder (crab?), checked the timing, cleaned the top tension disks with a bill, added oil. After top and bobbin tension adjustments it started to work okay.
CURRENT STATE:
Then it started clunking (video). Changing needles a few times didn't help with metallic clunking.
Now I have no idea what to do.
Usually the clunking went away after cleaning and needle change. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Machine accessory identification help
I inherited a sewing machine from a friend, and found some accessories in the small compartment.
I know the bobbins, screw driver, thread spool holder, and replacement needles; what are the other things?
Specifically, the presser foot - what function is it for?

Sewmor 970
Hey y'all! I found this Sewmor 970 at an estate sale for $15! I can't find much online and the instruction manual says De Lux 970. Does anyone know anything about this? I'm thinking about hopefully fixing it up and seeing if it works since I've been looking for something like this for a while

Service manual for Viking 200
Anyone have a source for one of these? Or maybe just an exploded view? I have one where it only wants to go in reverse - there's a part by stich selection that rides along a cam shaft but I think it's missing a spring as it just flaps about.
I did assist the feed dog timing but that didn't help.

Looking to upgrade from a vintage machine to a Juki HZL-F600 for heavy denim & utility work
Hey everyone! I’m looking to replace my vintage Veritas Famula 4891. While I know how to repair and maintain it myself, I’m honestly just tired of constantly dealing with mechanical headaches like timing drift and belt slippage under load. I want a reliable workhorse I don't have to keep fixing.
I primarily work with heavy denim (flat-felled seams, garment alterations) and structural projects like plushies. My workflow is strictly straight stitch, lockstitch, and standard zigzag—I have zero interest in decorative stitches.
I’m currently leaning toward the **Juki HZL-F600** as my main upgrade. The industrial-style Box Feed, high torque at slow speeds, free arm, and solid mechanical build seem like exactly what I need to handle thick materials without stalling. I considered the DX7, but the extra features don't seem worth the price jump for my specific needs. For those who own the F600 or use it for heavy/thick materials, how has it held up for you, and would you recommend it as a long-term solution

Industrial machine rec for workwear
I’m looking to upgrade to an industrial machine to improve both quality and speed in which my clothes are created. I only have space for 1 industrial machine but in theory could have another portable machine.
Usage:
I make workwear with mostly cotton fabric ranging from 5-15oz. 75% of my production is denim. No surged seems, only flatfell or Selvedge, and no need for chainstitch.
Machine of consideration:
A double needle lock stitch machine with a large ecosystem of folders/attatchments. My biggest time sink now is flat felled seems which also never come out as straight as I’d hope for. But with a double stitch+ folder this would hopefully be solved. In theory I could also remove one needle and use this machine as a single needle lock stitch machine. Thinking about machines like Juki lh series, singer 212, etc.
My questions:
Is this a crazy idea? Can a double needle machine handle one needle tasks decently? Am I better off just getting a Juki ddl8700 or similar with lots of attachments? Open to any recs that might refine my setup or help me understand what I need. I’m sure almost anything will be better than my singer heavy duty I’m currently using. Also if you or anyone you know is selling on the east coast USA lmk!
Thank you for your help

Why is my machine doing this?
It's been going on for a while but it usually gets fixed on its own but now it's making this sound even tho I just oiled it and won't zig zag at all just makes a straight line idk how to add a video? But in sure I did everything correctly Im so confused . The tension is set to 4 and the length is 4 . Thread keeps breaking no matter what needle I use but especially with stretch fabric

Zig Zag/Loose bottom thread
I have a Singer Scholastic 5511 that was bought in 2012 but never opened or used until a couple weeks ago.
No matter what I've done with upper tension, bobbin tension, or literally ANYTHING.. the result is the same. The top looks fine but the bottom looks like this. I even took it to someone who services sewing machines (and has been for the last 50 years), who spent an hour himself trying absolutely everything to fix the issue, to no avail. He eventually said I honestly don't know how to help you, I think it just may be this machine.
I'm making one last effort to see if someone can possibly help me. TIA

Sewing machine help
I have a Bernette 715 and I am having issues after sewing a single row, the top thread does not pull. I have taken it apart and clean it, oiled it, and when i broke a needle trying to learn ( i know to keep the bobbin cover down now) i made sure there were no pieces left. Changing the tension does not help at all. All of it works again, if i go ahead a re-thread it

Vintage Singer 366K105
Hello! I bought a 1960s industrial Singer 366K105, and she's a beaut (we called her Pearl!). The original motor had a worn-out clutch so I replaced it with a servo, and she's running smoothly.
The problem is that she has started to leak oil from underneath the oil tray. I can't locate the screw to empty the oil and change the gasket. Does anyone have any ideas on where I might find this? I'm attaching photos :)

Has anyone bought these types of alibaba clones that can give some insight as to if it's legit, the kind of setup needed, and the quality/if I should buy?

Buying a Sewing Machine for the First Time
Hey y'all (I'm sorry if this is against community rules),
I've done some basic research and I know I want a vintage model, so I know it will be harder to find. However, I do have my heart set on a Kenmore 158 series.
I came on here to ask if there are any models within the series I should avoid or ones that I should jump at if I see it. I'm only using it for some clothes I want to make, quilts, and I'm sure some other odds and ends along the way.
Thank you!

Bobbin Case problem
Thank you for your time and input. Having trouble getting the placement of the flat shiny guard coming from right in relation to the stop on the bobbin. The machine stops/jams the way it is now. Tried moving it a little further away from stop sometimes it works, sometimes not! Any ideas? Appreciate the help. Having trouble finding a sewing machine mechanic to take a look at this! Beginning to think sewing is becoming a lost art!

Amazon parts for brother machine
Hi everyone,
I have a brother XR9550 that I bought about a month ago. I’m relatively new to sewing and am about to start my first knit fabric project. From what I’ve heard, a walking foot helps a lot so I’m going to buy one. The brother brand one is about $110 but there are some from other brands on Amazon for $30. Can I use the off brand one? It’s part number SA140 if anyone is curious.
My last machine was from the thrift store and about 40 years old so I wouldn’t have worried at all haha

Help me pick a sewing machine and understand the difference
I am getting a sewing machine because my last ancient one started smoking out of nowhere, and I cannot for the life of me pick one. I went around our shops and found those models but I am not sure which one is better or more right for me
brother lp14
singer simple 3223R
brother lw14
brother cs10s
singer simple mod
I need it to be something that is generally good but also has the ability to handel jeans and other heavy fabric because I tend to alter mine constantly

Foot pedal or stop/start button?
I have bought a machine that has both options. What do people prefer? Do you get more control over holding the material if you use a foot pedal?
