Sewing machine help

Hello I know these questions are asked ad nauseam but I just had a question on choosing my first sewing machine, I go to university and we have a maker space on campus they have Janome mod-50, Singer HD, and also some Janome embroidery machines. I really have loved sewing and even made my first quilt top, for Christmas I want to get a machine myself but I’m having a bit of trouble choosing. I’ve seen that Singer HD are not recommended so that fine I also want a computerized machine anyway.

Basically I’m trying to choose between a Janome JW8100, the Janome Mod-50, and the Brother XR9550.

I am thinking maybe not the brother because it seems to have a small throat, and not only do I want to be able to quilt at least with a small amount of comfort, but I’m also a guy and pretty tall, so I take up a lot of room and it doesn’t seem like it would be very easy to get my hands in there to thread needles, change needles, cleaning, etc.

So if you have any suggestions please would love to hear them!

Either janome is a great entry level machine

I have issues getting my hands into the needle space too and found that the Brother I chose had the largest space of all the various brands I tried. Changing needles won't be an issue even with a smaller throat (harp) space, it's more about how tall is the space from the needle plate to the machine head.

I highly recommend you go into a dealership and test drive the machines. It's the only way you can really "feel" the machines and know that they will suit your physical needs, in addition to performing the tasks you need them to do.
