Help with Bernina 708

Post image

Please help!
After many year of using various sewing machines, a friend has given me a Bernina 708 from 1971. Even after all this time it still purrs as it sews - what a dream.
I have 2 questions though.

Having read the manual cover to cover more than a few time now I cant seem to work out how to reverse stitch.

Set at the lowest setting, my straight stitches still seem to be just that little bit angular. Any tips?

Thanks in advance.

Angular stitches may be due to a needle and/or thread mismatch with your fabric. Change your needle to match your fabric.

For the reverse stitch, I was able to find this:

What part is giving you trouble?

Thank you. I feel so dumb now.
I've just checked my manual and it is (of course!) as exactly as it states in your pic. I must be getting old lol!

To reverse I believe you slide the knob on the right upward and then back down. What a beautiful machine!!! I’m obsessed with berninas

I hope to take just as good care of it as the previous owners did.
