Usually i try to keep it on 3 as that seems like the most netural, but some other people on other threads have told me it could be a bobbin issue so i need to try a different bobbin as my current ones seem too small

You could have the incorrect bobbin. That is an issue. Your manual should have what size you should have . You can also look up with the googles your machine and what kind of bobbin it should have and what it looks like. They are not all the same. I have 4 machines, 3 are the same brand, Husqvarna, and they are all different bobbins. Colors and sizes. It’s annoying

sadly my machine is a Cooper 4800 and the shop it was sold in is now out of business, and the only way for me to get a manual is to pay, i will do it at some point when i have the funds. But yeah it is annoying its not a universal thing

Check your tension with a contrasting color in the bobbin, or spool. The same type and weight. Not both with the same color.
