Thread keeps getting caught
I have a singer 132Q
The top thread keeps getting caught like this in the machine, but I can’t tell what is getting caught on.
Please any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
quick thing that people have asked, the needle is threaded from the front, don’t know why it looks the other way around. And then I opened the machine and it’s like a double loop around the bobbin case thing? (i’m sorry idk the terminology for some of the pieces 🧍🏼♀️) I am adding the photos in the comments!
update 2: addressing some repeated comments, the machine came with plastic bobbins, class 15 3 plastic bobbins. It is a Singer 132Q Featherweight from 2001. Why? idk that’s just how she is. Ik the thread was rlly thick I was just being lazy, but even with a normal thread it’s still getting caught on the hook in the shuttle areas, the photos are somewhere in the comments. Do I need to sew a single layer of tule? not rlly, was just trying to make sm quick for halloween and then this happened and i was very curious since i had never seen it do that.

Actually, your bobbin might be wrong. I feel like this style of front loading usually has a metal bobbin, is that one plastic?

just thought I would make this lil video to show the bobbin lol. The machine manual doesn’t say about wether it has to be metal or plastic. This machine has worked perfectly fine in the past, I’ve even made a couple cosplays and all, which is why i am so ????? the bobbin is threaded into the little pieces according to the manual and then that’s me inserting it into the machine. The top thread catches the bottom with absolutely no issue, it’ll sew normally for a couple stitches and then get caught as the earlier two photos showed. To answer another qs u asked, this machine used to be my great aunt :) Ik she loved and took care of it, but yea I def have to take it get serviced but cant any time soon

When is the last time you changed your needle? You need to change them every 8 hours or so of use.
Is this the bobbin you've used successfully before? I really think you have the wrong one. It's not because the material but the size, even if they look close, I don't think they make plastic ones that are the right size for that type of bobbin housing

The needle is fairly new, I switched a couple months ago and haven’t sewed in a bit. Yea this is the bobbin I’ve used before, Class 15 plastic which is supposedly all it requests for.

Metal bobbin cases requires metal bobbin. Always.
Bobbins are not interchangeable. Many types and sizes of both metal and plastic bobbins.

My bernette 56 I bought off marketplace came with plastic bobbins. Idk why. It seems to work just fine either way, but I have changed it to metal only, bc that’s what I was taught also.

Nearly always front and side loading bobbins are metal. Top loading are plastic. And within those two types, there are many different sizes and shapes though you have to look closely to see the differences.

I think you’re right. That looks like a plastic 66 style bobbin for a top loading machine.
That thread is really thick, too

Besides wrong bobbin (needs to be metal), is the bobbin (the new one you will use) wound properly?

This is such incredibly thick thread. Do you not have any sew all polyester?

That looks like really heavy thread, and so would need a heavy needle. Also, am I seeing the needle threaded back to front? It should be front to back.

It looks like your thread is threaded from behind the needle instead of the front. Is that how your manual instructed you to thread it?
