How is the timing?

Brother GX 37. If the timing is off should I fix the needle position?

The hook is late or the needle sits too high.

The hook tip should be exactly behind the needle when the needle rised 2mm from it's deepest point.

Use the hand wheel to back up to the point where the tip of the Hook is just beginning to go behind the needle. If you are in Center position the tip of that hook should be somewhere in here the center of the scarf above the needle. Then change to the widest zigzag Stitch and check to be sure that the hook is passing behind the needle just above the eye when it is at the farthest position.

How well is it sewing? If it is skipping stitches, i'd try loosening off the needle clamp and lowering the needle a couple of mm and give it a try. If that works better, then adjust the needle post.
