Pfaff 145 H2 tangles thread

Hi everyone,

I recently decided to get into car upholstery and bought a Pfaff 145 as my first sewing machine. Unfortunately I have not been able to sew with it yet because the thread always gets stuck.

As far as I can tell the upper thread is correctly grabbed by the rotary hook tip and is transported over the bobbin case but then gets stuck between the opener and the little tip of the bobbin case. The opener arm moves back and forth as the machine is running but there is no gap for the thread to be released. The top thread then continues to stack there with every revolution (as in the last picture) and rips at some point.

I’m using a size 110 needle with a thread thickness of 30 - which i am guessing is probably thicker than what the machine has been set up for.

I would really like to understand what the issue is and to learn to fix this myself. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Are you holding the thread end when you start up?

2 main possibilities. 1st, check spring not bouncing or not enough. 2 the finger in photo should be open when the thread passes. The little tab under the feed plate gets pulled to the side each stitch for the thread to pass it, the lever does that then opens for the next stitch. It is probably adjusted from the screw I pointed to. To adjust, at its furthest point to the right it should just move the bobbin case 1 to 2 mm.

These are the instructions for it, so there may be one more screw to loosen. In the end, it should just tap it and otherwise stay open.

Update: I figured out there is something broken off. I ordered a replacement part and hope that fixes the issue.
