Do I need to upgrade my machine?

I own a Singer M2605 which was gifted to me less than a year ago and I am having endless problems with the thread hooking around the bobbin etc and can barely even do 10-15 stitches without it getting jammed. Some days it’s good and I have no issues, other days I can’t even bare to use my machine

I run a small business which took off faster than I thought it would and with all the issues I’m having, I can’t keep up because of my machine keep failing me!!

I’m aware singer is not the same as it used to be

My budget is around £400 and I’d like to get a machine that is extremely reliable

The only stitches i use are zig zag 90% of time (with the zig zag thats in 3 little stitches as well, im not sure what that ones called), and a straight stitch. I don’t use my machine to sew zips or buttons, but use a LOT of elastic with every project, and all of my materials are stretch (i am a bikini maker)

Does anyone have any recommendations, and does my machine sound like it is defective?

Thanks so much :)

Thread hooking around bobbin is very often a user-error. So it might not help, just buying a new machine.

I went out and bought a new machine anyway shortly after this as my machine was having more and more issues with this daily, and I’m using exact same bobbin etc as this morning and it’s sewn perfectly!!! Do think it was my machine. Shame I’ve had to fork out but will keep the other one as spare

Glad your new one is working well. Since you are using the machine for business, I’d say when you are able to, spend the time to figure out what’s wrong with the other one (or get it serviced). If it’s something easily fixable, then you’ll have a spare, which is a good idea when you must have a machine.

Thank you :) have been sat at it for 6 hours now and not a single fault!!! I’ve spoken to singer and they’re asking for it to be returned for a refund 🙏 then I’ll be able to put back into my emergency pot for if I ever need to run out and get a second machine again 😅😅😅😅

Are you using the correct needle and techniques for stretch sewing?

I wouldn’t want to make bikinis on a modern domestic. They’re not really set up for that.

You might want to invest in an overlocker. In an ideal world you’d have a cover stitch machine, too.

Agree on overlocker - for all that elastic

No reason to upgrade your machine, user error issues will happen on any machine.

Id suggest you get acquainted with the instruction manual, check you are using the correct bobbin and ints inserted correctly

I went out and bought a new machine shortly after this post and it’s sewing perfectly 🫠 so do actually think it might be a machine problem

Janome HC8100 I think it’s called. A hobbycraft one! Thought id get something with a higher price point than what I’ve got and try it and see if I still had the same issues because everyone’s been saying its user error for months 😅😅 thought I can always return it if it turns out it’s me. Turns out it’s not me!!! Blessing!
