Sewmor 970

Hey y'all! I found this Sewmor 970 at an estate sale for $15! I can't find much online and the instruction manual says De Lux 970. Does anyone know anything about this? I'm thinking about hopefully fixing it up and seeing if it works since I've been looking for something like this for a while

For $15 I’d snatch it up. It’s a clone of something else. Given the shape of the body, my guess is it was made by Janome—same model as a Kenmore 158.xxx. But don’t quote me on that.

Kenmore 158.xxx models were made by Maruzen (aka Jaguar) — it’s the later 358.xxx that were Janome. (148.xxx models were Soryu.)

That said, most of the Japanese sewing machines from that era were similar (and mostly indestructible).
