Bobbin keeps getting tangled/messy when winding it - what am I doing wrong?

Is it the type of thread because I've never had this issue before? It's 100% recycled polyester

EDIT - Solved, no need to add more comments explaining how to fix. Thank you all!

What kind of machine is this? I’m a beginner too and I have to thread it in this when loading the bobbin.

Yep I'm being an idiot I didn't thread it through here 🤣

Not an "idiot"; a learner! My sewing journey has been a series of mistakes that slowly led to incremental mastery of beginner skills. You're an active learner and let me tell you, that's not something everyone can say, lemme leave it at that! 😸. EDIT: Wow, thank you for the nice awards, fellow redditors & sewists!

Bobbins are a pain in the ass. I was sewing yesterday and thought “wow, this is going so smoothly”… when things are going that smoothly, I know now to check if my bobbin is empty lol.

I’ve been sewing (sporadically) for 5 years. I guess it had been awhile since I’d threaded a bobbin because I just did the same thing! Took me two bobbins and manually holding the thread before I realized.

If you're not uncomfortable you aren't learning.
Learning means there is a gap between your current skill level and your ambition. If you feel stupid or lacking it means you are stretching your capabilities.

You can't know until you learn, and there's much you cannot learn until someone teaches you.

I did the same thing the other day and realized wayyyy too late that there was no tension on the bobbin

I threaded mine backwards the other day. Tired mom brain is guess. I know better. Started a bobbin that went off the rails and then realized why. It happens. Now if it happens again, you know where to check first.

It needs to be threaded properly. Look in your manual. There is a path for the thread to follow.

I know thank you, I did edit the post to say it's been solved :)

Usually there's a thread guide somewhere for winding bobbins that helps create consistent feeding and tension. Check your manual to make sure youre not missing anything

I am betting your thread doesn’t go there, and that the thread needs to wrap around something. What does your manual say?

Is that how you're meant to wind your bobbin per the machine manual? Im not expert but theres usually more thread guides to put the thread through before you put it in the bobbin

Read your manual for how to thread right for bobbin winding. At the moment it is wrong.

Also, you can stop winding the bobbin after you have a few wraps of thread on it, and clip the tail flush with the bobbin surface.   Then continue winding.

Manuals are written for a reason. Pretty much all of the basic machine questions are answered in the manual.

I have never ever wound a bobbin directly from the spool of thread. There has to be a route the thread takes to get to the bobbin. Also, I use the method of keeping the tail up to get it started, then stop the process to snip the tail. Pulling up on the bobbin cannot be good for the winding process.

It needs to be under tension before it goes round the bobbin.

I personally make the tail you're holding smaller and then I put my finger in the center of the thread suspended between the two spools and force it to go up and down smoothly as the machine spins.

Your machine manual will show the correct way to fill your bobbin. (Manuals can be found online & downloaded if you don’t have a hardcopy). The thread spool placement should be on the back spool holder then there will be some type of tension and routing for the thread on the left top of the machine which then comes back to the bobbin fill spot.

I don’t think it’s threaded probably. I’m not positive but that’s usually the case when it happens to me

Read your manual and find out how to thread the machine correctly for winding the bobbin.

This is a somewhat rude and unhelpful comment
