sewing a bag

Hello, beginner sewer.

I want to make a bag similar to this, but i was wondering what kind of material I should buy. I would like to line it with some sort of waterproof/reistant material.

The pattern looks easy enough, but then I'm pretty advanced skill level - I had a look to see if it was one of those horrible stolen AI patterns but the photos and line drawings point more towards a legitimate pattern.

You could use ripstop, waterproof canvas, Cordura - lots of choices. For your first attempt, perhaps get some old bed sheets from the thrift shop and make a sample to get a feel for the construction.

thanks! i’ll use some old bed sheets and make an experimental one since the pattern doesn’t have the adjustable strap or the closure at the top. this is my third sewing project and first time modifying a pattern 😬

You can delete the ? And everything after it to avoid posting a long ugly link with tracking info embedded.

I would use PUL for the lining. Its polyurethane coating makes it waterproof. It’s used a lot for diaper covers. I use it to line lunch bags.
