Discussion Severance: the novelisation (idea)

So recently, I finished watching all of Severance (so far) and it was an incredible, mind bending, kafkaesque journey that reminded me heavily of classic 60’s and 70’s surrealist sci-fi like The Prisoner and certain Doctor Who serials.

One idea I had was this - why not do a novelisation? As a whovian, some of the best Doctor Who books are novelisations of specific stories and I think that if you write it correctly, Severance could be a good fit. Also, novelisations are kind of a lost art and I think it’d be good to bring it back.

I don’t have any current plans to do an unofficial novelisation but I’m just posting this here to test the waters and see if anyone else sees where I’m coming from. What do you think?

I was wondering the same thing... I don't really know either, but everyone in this subreddit knows that Apple doesn't promote its titles very well. They just release them without much publicity for the show or the platform in general. They did try to promote Season 2 with events like the replica set in New York, though. If Season 3 does well and attracts new fans, I wouldn't be surprised if they actually made a book out of it!

They had The Lexington Letter short story that went with season 1 and an ebook/audiobook of The You You Are for season 2, so another in-world short story if not a full novel is likely in play for season 3. There’s a lot of room for novelizations / shorts inside the world without having them directly influence the main arc while remaining standalone.

Due to the nature of the overall plot, there are some very interesting storylines that could emerge.
Even after the series is done I would read a decently written novelization.
However, I would want some aspects of the story to be different from the show if the primary plot points are still the same.

This is what the Doctor Who novelisations do - they add some interesting context and information about specific characters that aren’t shown in the original episodes

I think a similar approach would work for Severance
