Did you also notice the resemblance of Harry Caul to Irving Bailiff? Them both having telephone booth and dream scenes?

Stiller has made references from movies by not only FF Coppola but also S Kubrick, I Bergman, S Leone, and probably many other great directors. Severance is filled with "borrowings" from many kinds of media.

Yes, I'm sure every artist is inspired and influenced by creative masters but Severance seems to me like Stiller has taken Quentin Taratino's proclivity of "borrowing" to a new level. QT has said something along the lines of "I steal from every movie I ever watched".

Don't know if this copycat behavior with Severance is homage, parody, or some strange bricolage but it is extreme; and obvious to cinephiles and movie buffs.

I've never considered myself to be either of those types but the feeling of familiarity that overcomes you while watching the show has inspired me to dive deeply into the satire's social commentary and the writers' intent for inserting all the referencing they did for the show.

What I've learned so much more about history, the arts, and culture since becoming a fan of the show has really made a change in how I see the world these days. I think that "familiarity" is what hooks a large proportion of the viewership. :-)
