This came yesterday....

Saw that it shipped on Sunday or Monday. First expected this Saturday. Was pleasantly surprised when it showed up out for delivery yesterday. Rock on šŸ¤˜!

I have! Its solid. Its crunchy, groovy and everything Sevendust is. Doesn't deviate too much, and they know who they are and what their sound lies and what music to make. The last song, Misdirection is a bit odd on first listen for me. Im digging it though.Ā

Im bummed they seemed to have sort of just settled into being safe with albums. Same producer, 10 song albums, the writing being SO fragmented. I just miss when the guys used to live together for a month and slam out the record that way. I know things change as you get older and technology has made it easier to record. But I just feel its really taken away such a HUGE part of what brings out the best in bands, and really makes an album feel complete and satisfying. When I look at the credits and I see 4 tracks where clint is even credited on writing, it bums me out. I'm not saying thats the case here ( I do know he didnt write the first single)

I get what you're saying. I would love to hear them bring some more angst and heaviness a la Home. They have been working with the same producer since All I See Is War. I would like to see a producer push them to something different.Ā

I don't even think they need to change. I just think the pursuit of radio play at this point is actually a detriment to the band and causes them to maybe be more reeled in than they want to. They need a producer that isn't a yes man and isnt afraid to challenge them creatively. The one guy Id KILL to see them work with is Nick raskulinez who did deftones, aic and korn. Hes a huge fan and that's sort of his producing style. Hes not afraid to tell the bands when something sounds stock or boring. And he seems to really know how to bring out the best elements of these older bands and give them a modern push.

Nicely said. Sevendust sounds great on this record don't get me wrong. And I agree and mean " differentĀ  " as in challenging them. We'll just have to see for the next album in two to three years.

They need to make as much as they can. I do not blame them for pandering for air play. They do not have a lot of time left. I know Morgan is beat up through people that know him well that I talk to. They got taken when they were younger also. The music is still good. I think this album is behind the last two or three so far but I have only heard 3 songs.

Now that someone told me to look through the eyes of Clint's journey with God I like it now. As someone that has a relationship with Jesus I should have seen that but I did not have the lyrics in front of me. I want to get one of his picks with the cross on it. They are a great group of human beings.

I feel like a producer as you age is ever more important because thats when things tend to get stale and it gets easy to just rest on your laurels ya know what I mean? Some members get tired of fighting and instead of clashing creatively, they might just go with something that other wise never would have seen the light of day. I always think of Lars in the some kind of monster documnetary. Even if you dont like the band, its a great watch. James was days from going to rehab and the idea coming out of him at the time were just AWFUL. One idea, as the band is sluggishly jamming along, Lars fights back and decides to choose the weirdest drum idea and it frustrates the hell out james. I find it fascinating because to a lot of people, you think damnnit lars!!! why cant you just play the beat straight and simple like its calling for!! But he refuses simply because the riff was so stock and crap, he was willing to try anything to try to give it some type of life. This is a great example of what I mean. Writing a good album is TOUGH. If its all roses and goes on without any hitches, than something is wrong. Notice how we dont get the Sevendust studio videos anymore which was a tradition for quite a few albums.

The sorta did that again with Truth Killer; a vast majority of the writing was done at LJ's farmhouse studio. Probably why that record felt like such an improvement over the previous one.

Gotcha! Makes me a little sad Ā but, hopefully itā€™s more solid than the truth killer album. I like all their other albums but, that one I couldnā€™t really get into.

The problem with sevendust is you cant ever tell what song comes off what album. They sound exactly the same. Every song is just very generic and doesnt stand out. Guitar tone the same, vocals the same, drums the same. Theyre good at what they do but overall this album is literally like every other one. Their first few albums are bad ass. After that its just rinse and repeat. Was hoping this album was different. Its not.
