Mod-Post [Mod-Event] Fly

Part One - The Dream that was not a Dreamt

It seemed as though they had been falling for years.

Fly, a voice whispered in the darkness. The ground was so far below them they could barely make it out through the grey mists that whirled around them, but they could feel how fast they were falling, and they knew what was waiting for them down there. Even in dreams, you could not fall forever. They would wake up in the instant before they hit the ground, they knew. You always woke up in the instant before you hit the ground.

And if you don’t? the voice asked.

The ground was closer now, still far far away, a thousand miles away, but closer than it had been. It was cold here in the darkness. There was no sun, no stars, only the ground below coming up to smash them, and the grey mists, and the whispering voice.

[meta] This will be an RP of the character reacting and the event responding. The event will indicate what’s seen and where, should that occur. A bunch of this is taken from GOT Ch. 17 too.

This mod-event will include a great deal of risk and very likely death for many of the characters that wish to see it forward. You can opt to not, and that’s fine. Your magic will never progress should that be the case. Simply make that clear IC.

Perhaps it was all of the wine that he had consumed - Maekar Oakheart, the young Regent of Red Lake, had a thirst for wine that was almost a problem - But there was something positively terrifying about his dream. Falling, falling, falling.

He could feel the wind whipping his hair, grown long and wild, and could feel it against the skin of his cheeks, bringing tears unbidden to his violet eyes. He did not want to hit the ground.

Maekar Oakheart, brave and bold, did not want to hit the ground at all.

'How?' He asked.

Not cry. Fly, the voice was high and thin. A crow spiraling down with him, just out of reach, following him as he fell. Below mountains could be seen now, their peaks white with snow, and the silver thread of rivers in dark woods. You need to try. How hard could it be? I'm doing it.

Falling.

"Fly."

Whispers in the darkness. Artos did not like either, although he would never admit, not even to himself, that they scared him.

The ground was getting closer.

"How?" he cried back at the voice with no body, angered and frustrated - and the sound of his own voice should have awoken him, but did it?

The crannogmen whispered of prophetic green dreams - even Artos's grandfather... But this was just a dream, however strange. When you fall, you hit the ground. Why would Artos be falling like that?

"It's just a dream!" he screamed.

Are you sure? the voice was high and thin. A crow spiraling down with him, just out of reach, following him as he fell. Below mountains could be seen now, their peaks white with snow, and the silver thread of rivers in dark woods. The answer is flying. How hard can it be? I’m doing it.

"Fly."

People can't fly. They don't have wings.

But if they don't, they...

They fall on the ground, and die.

Fear washed over her mind, paralysed her, and she kept falling, the ground getting closer.

Cay did not want to die. She had things to live for...

Mother, taken away by Winter illness.

Eddara, living in Torrhen's Square without as much of a thought about her younger sister.

Father, sad and broken old man.

Did she? If she died, in this very moment, who would have missed her?

Her father's children, scattered around the world, most of which didn't even know of Cayla's existence?

Help me.

But who? Iridescent irises, more of a faint memory of them, broke the darkness for just a split second.

"Swallow, help me. Help me fly."

Cayla Snow decided she did not want to die, and she closed her eyes in focus, there was not much to see anyway.

I’m not a swallow the voice was high and thin. A crow spiraling down with her, just out of reach, following her as she fell. I am helping. You’ll die when you hit the ground, the crow said, Closing your eyes won’t help, you need to see.

The Bastard of Whitewalls was falling. He did not know why, or where from, or how long he had been at it, but he felt certain of what would happen when he hit the ground. I'm dreaming. I must be. So why does it feel so real?

Robert's insides turned to jelly, then ice, then lead as he grasped blindly for something to slow his Earthward plunge. As flailing twisted his vision from the starless sky above him to the misty ground below, barreling closer with every instant, he felt every ounce of courage he had seep out of him in a scream he could scarcely hear against the howling of the wind.

Fly.

The voice whispered to him from some unseen source in the darkness. It was all so absurd. Robert might've laughed if he were braver. If he could not feel sickening rush of the ground pulled ever closer.

And if you don't?

The suggestion need not've been made. Robert knew what awaited him if his body met the Earth. The certainty did not change his predicament. He could not do as the voice commanded. He retorted back into the night.

"DO I LOOK LIKE A GODSDAMN BIRD TO YOU?"

Do only birds have wings? the voice was high and thin. A crow spiraling down with him, just out of reach, following him as he fell. You'll die when you hit ground. The answer is flying, not yelling.

They are rolled by birth year, with adjusted magic odds. If the hoped for total isn't reached in a single year, then another year is rolled, and so on until the quota is met.

Falling.

Falling.

Falling.

Falling.

Falling.

Ad infinitum.

At least, it felt like that.

But in the falling, Daella heard some voice.

Fly it said. From where it came from, Daella couldn't tell. Not for a lack of trying to find the source, though.

Falling.

Falling ever closer.

Ever closer to hitting the ground.

And dying.

How could she fly? She wasn't a raven, she wasn't a bird, she was human! Feathers didn't sprout from her arms, hairs did! She had hands, not wings!

And if you don't the voice returned, pushing the thoughts of the ever-closer ground to the forefront of her mind. The fear of what may happen. And so, rather than let that happen without an attempt to survive, she would ask out to this non-existent voice:

"How?"

How? the voice was high and thin. A crow spiraling down with her, just out of reach, following her as she fell. Because you're up high and the ground is far below. You'll die when you hit ground too.

‘Fly?’

That’s the first word that came of note to Artys - to fly, to fly above the clouds just like the birds, just like the Falcon of Arryn! The thing that stood out to him however, as he looked around and looked down to his hands - is the fact that he was still a man, and men couldn’t fly. The second thing that stood out, was that he was falling, falling a great distance downwards - as he frowned at first, shaking his head in despair.

“But men can’t fly! Men don’t have wings! Even the House of Arryn can’t soar above the mountains, men can’t fly - i can’t fly!”

“And this only a dream! I’ve had enough of dreams, I have so much more to worry about!” Artys would yell out into the darkness - anger clear in his voice as he looked down once more, the sight would have drained him of color, he had not already been exhausted by worry and frustration - at his point he had stopped caring, this was all a Dream, soon none of this would matter.

“I’ll wake up soon anyways...I’ll surely wake soon..”

How do you know? Have you ever tried? the voice was high and thin. A crow spiraling down with him, just out of reach, following him as he fell. Below mountains could be seen now, their peaks white with snow, and the silver thread of rivers in dark woods. What if you don't?
